Whizdom is seeking an experienced RF Field Technician to support the upgrade of legacy radio networks for emergency communications reliability in Canberra, ACT. You will contribute to input, installation, modification and testing of RF solutions, with travel to remote locations as required.

The role focuses on fault resolution, design, integration and ongoing performance monitoring of RF devices and software to ensure fit-for-purpose outcomes.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in radio communication engineering.
  • Strong RF/microwave knowledge: design, testing and optimisation.
  • Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation including high-level designs and maintenance plans.
  • Willingness to travel regularly for deployments, maintenance and support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide input and assist with identification, development, installation and modification of RF frequency solutions.
  • Assist with fault resolution, requirement gathering and solution design for RF systems.
  • Design, set up, calibrate and test RF devices and software per maintenance schedules.
  • Integrate hardware/firmware modifications and support system deployment and configuration.
  • Monitor performance, diagnose faults and escalate according to procedures.
  • Investigate system-wide faults using diagnostic tools and techniques.
  • Reconfigure equipment to mitigate temporary outages and optimise performance.
  • Support RF device selection and integration within systems.
  • Communicate internally and assist with device/software reconfiguration to improve operation.

Job description

About the Role:

The Department is seeking a skilled and experienced Radio Frequency (RF) Field Technician to support the Communications Network which involves the upgrade of legacy radio networks to ensure emergency communications are reliable and fit for purpose.

  • providing input and assisting with the identification, development, installation and modification of radio frequency
  • assisting with fault resolution, requirement gathering, capability and solution design, installation and integration of RF solutions;
  • scoping, design, set up, tuning/ calibration and functional checks of RF devices and software, following maintenance schedules and using appropriate tools and test equipment;
  • integrating hardware/ firmware modifications, implement communication systems and elements in accordance with standards;
  • support of fault/ performance indications and fault resolution and/or escalates according to given procedures;
  • investigating and resolving system-wide fault conditions using a wide range of diagnostic tools and techniques;
  • reconfiguring equipment to circumvent temporary outages;
  • specifying and supporting the selection and integration of RF devices in systems;
  • providing support in internal communication and assisting with the reconfiguration of devices and software to optimise performance;
  • monitoring system performance, recommend equipment modifications, upgrades and changes to operating procedures, service maintenance methods and schedules;
  • assisting with equipment upgrades and modifications and approvals;
  • reviewing industry and technology advancements, national standards, relevant RF protocols and regulations; and
  • measuring and evaluating the effectiveness of operational solutions, devices and software.
Skills and Experience Required:
  • Demonstrated experience (5+ years) in radio communication engineering.
  • Strong understanding of RF and microwave communication systems, including design, testing an optimisation.
  • Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation, including high-level designs and maintenance plans.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to geographically Posts and remote locations as required for system deployments, maintenance and support.
Location and Contract Term:

This role is based in the ACT. 12-month contract with 2x12 - month contract extension options pending budget and delegate approval.

Applicants must be Australian Citizens and hold a NV2 security clearance.
