Job summary

Heidelberg Materials Australia invites applications for a Quarry Operator at the Canberra Quarry in Williamsdale, about 30 minutes south of Canberra. The role is permanent full-time with a standard start around 6am and potential overtime, including Saturdays.

You will operate mobile plant such as loaders, dump trucks, excavators and crushing/screening equipment, participate in routine maintenance and inspections, and support weighbridge duties.

Qualifications

• Safety is a priority and you will operate heavy machinery.
• Willing to learn, training available for unfamiliar equipment.
• Follow pre-start and maintenance procedures for fixed and mobile plant.
• Must pass pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol testing.
• Some machinery may have weight limits and safety rules.

• Operate Loader, Dump Truck, Excavator and Crushing/Screening plant as directed.
• Perform general fixed plant maintenance and inspections to keep equipment running safely.
• Assist with weighbridge duties and other quarry tasks as needed.

Job description

We’re on the lookout for a self-motivated Quarry Operator to join our team at the Canberra Quarry, located in Williamsdale! Reporting to the Quarry Manager, this is a permanent full-time position from Monday to Friday, there will be opportunities for overtime and Saturday work as required.

We’re looking for someone who has a passion for safety and value strong work ethic, as well as be willing and able to work a varied operator role including crushing plant operations, general maintenance duties and weighbridge attendant.

What’s the Job Like?

• Location: You’ll be based at the Canberra Quarry, which is situated about 30 minutes drive south of Canberra, in Williamsdale.
• Hours: This is a full-time position and most days will start around 6am.
• Pay: We pay a fixed hourly rate of $42.17 with a weekly pay cycle.
• Heavy Machinery: Get hands‑on, operating mobile equipment like Dump Trucks (rigid), Front End Loaders, Excavators and Crushing/Screening Plant Machinery.
• Safety First: You’ll be a part of general fixed plant maintenance and inspections, where keeping everything running smoothly and safely is the top priority.
• Teamwork: In peak times, everyone rolls up their sleeves and contributes to any quarry tasks needed. It’s all about team spirit and getting the job done together.

This role is a great fit for you if you:

• Have experience operating a Loader, Dump Truck, Excavator or Crushing and Screening is preferred – but if you’re eager and ready to learn the ropes, we can train you!
• Have a passion for safety and operating heavy machinery
• Are fully committed to Zero Harm and Safety Leadership – safety comes first, always.
• Can strictly follow pre‑start and maintenance procedures for both fixed and mobile plant.
• Are comfortable working both within a small team and independently.
• Bring a professional work ethic with a "can do" attitude to everything you do.
• Medical Check: You’ll also need to complete a pre‑employment medical, including a drug and alcohol test (random testing is also conducted on all Heidelberg sites).
• Safety: Some of our machinery have weight limits on their seats and seatbelts. For safety reasons, you may need to be under a specified weight for these trucks.
