Job summary

Healthscope is seeking a Quality and Risk Coordinator at Norwest Private Hospital in Sydney. The role drives governance, risk management, and patient-centered care in a leading hospital within Australia’s private sector.

The successful candidate will lead quality investigations, support clinical managers, and ensure compliance with NSQHS standards. You will collaborate across teams to uplift patient experience and safety, with a focus on continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Current registration as an AHPRA Registered Nurse and active nursing practice.
• Demonstrated experience in healthcare quality and risk portfolios.
• Working knowledge of NSQHS Standards, accreditation and regulatory frameworks.
• Strong data analysis, incident review, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to communicate with empathy and clarity, ensuring patient and family voices are heard.

Responsibilities

• Lead and guide Standard Committee Meetings to reflect patient needs and drive improvements.
• Provide quality portfolio support across Clinical Managers’ teams to improve outcomes.
• Policy creation, review, and compliance to ensure safe, consistent patient-centered care.
• Support organisation-wide risk management, incident investigation, and harm reduction.
• Conduct investigations into clinical and operational incidents, including Serious Adverse Event Reviews, to prevent harm and improve experience.
• Perform hospital rounding and targeted spot audits to ensure safety and quality standards.
• Support regulatory responses to maintain accreditation and embed learnings into practice.

About This Role

As the Quality and Risk Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that patients remain at the centre of every decision, every improvement, and every care process within our hospital. You will lead the development and implementation of robust governance and risk frameworks that support safe, high‑quality, compassionate care.

This role requires advocacy for patient needs, to inspire a culture of safety, and ensure our standards consistently reflect our values. You will work closely with clinical teams, executives, and support staff to strengthen systems, uplift patient experience, and continuously improve outcomes.

In this role, you will support governance structures that uphold safe, high‑quality care and ensure the patient voice is embedded in every level of decision‑making. This includes proactively identifying risks, compliance with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards, and fostering a culture of accountability and compassion.

The role is part of a Quality team led by the Quality, Risk and Patient Experience Manager and works closely in collaboration with the Education team.

Key responsibilities include:

Standard Committee Meetings

Lead and guide committee discussions to ensure clinical and operational standards reflect patient needs, drive improvement, and support the implementation of agreed actions.

Quality portfolio support for Clinical Managers

Collaborate across departmental forums to align priorities, share insights, and improve outcomes across all patient care areas.

Policy compliance

Link the creation and review of policies that ensure safe, consistent, patient‑centred clinical practice.

Risk Management & Analysis – Reducing Harm, Improving Experience

This role supports an organisation‑wide approach to risk management, ensuring early identification, thorough investigation, and effective mitigation of clinical risks.

Key responsibilities include:

Provide Quality expertise in comprehensive investigations into clinical and operational incidents, including Serious Adverse Event Reviews, with a focus on preventing harm and improving patient experience.

Review findings, identify systemic risks, and support teams in implementing meaningful improvements.

Hospital Rounding & Spot Audits

Conduct proactive ward rounds and targeted audits to identify gaps in practice, connect with patients and staff, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

Compliance & Regulatory Response – Delivering Safe, Trusted Care

Join and play a pivotal role in the Quality team that support and ensure the hospital meets all accreditation and regulatory requirements, embedding learnings into practice and improving the overall patient journey.

Qualifications & Experience

• Current registration with AHPRA- Registered Nurse
• Tertiary qualifications in health, clinical governance, quality or risk management (or working towards)
• Demonstrated experience in healthcare quality and risk portfolios
• Demonstrated ability to communicate with empathy and clarity, ensuring patients and families feel heard, supported, and respected.
• Working knowledge of NSQHS Standards, accreditation and regulatory frameworks
• Intermediate to advanced skills in data analysis, incident review, and stakeholder engagement
• Acute hospital clinical experience – e.g. critical care, perioperative, general medical/ surgery
