Job summary

Safran Electronics & Defense Australasia Pty Ltd (SEDA) in Sydney is seeking a Quality Manager to lead and improve the Integrated Management System (IMS) across the product lifecycle for defense-related optronic and navigation equipment.

The role focuses on ensuring ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 compliance, driving CAPA, audits, and KPI reporting, while fostering a culture of quality and safety and coordinating with Safran Group policies.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Quality Management or related field.
• Extensive experience designing, implementing, and managing ISO 9001 QMS with AS9100 and ISO 45001.
• Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, 5S continuous improvement.
• Defense/aerospace regulatory manufacturing background.
• Experience with project management in system/product lifecycle.
• Lead Auditor certification and Six Sigma Green Belt/AQAP knowledge are highly regarded.

Headquartered in Sydney, SEDA brings local expertise in the integration of optronics and navigation systems for the air, land, and naval platforms of the Australian and New Zealand Defence Forces.

The Quality Manager is responsible for leading, maintaining, and continually improving SEDA's Integrated Management System (IMS), ensuring compliance with Safran Group policies, defense and regulatory requirements, and ISO standards (ISO 9001 and ISO 45001).

In this role, you will be responsible for:

• Maintain and align a unified IMS with Safran Group policies, ensuring compliance with reliability, safety, and regulatory requirements across the product lifecycle.
• Foster a strong quality and safety culture through proactive risk management, compliance, and customer satisfaction initiatives.
• Drive manufacturing process controls, root cause analysis (8D, 5 Whys), and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) on the production floor.
• Lead document control, internal and supplier audits, and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
• Serve as the primary contact for audits, customer quality assurance, and certification bodies.
• Investigate customer complaints and non-conformances to drive process improvement.
• Collect, analyse, and report statistical quality data; update key performance indicators (KPIs) and monthly Balanced Scorecard (BSC) metrics.
• Compile and submit reports to Safran Electronics & Defense headquarters, relating to quality performance and initiatives.
• Identify opportunities for improvement through QMS data and trend analysis.
• Promote and deploy the QRQC (Quick Response Quality Control) methodology throughout the organisation.
• Organise and facilitate Business & Corruption Risk meetings, and monitor ongoing risk management activities.
• Deliver quality-related training and ongoing support for QRQC and problem-solving techniques.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Baseline security clearance - Able to manage sensitive information and compliance obligations, especially in a defense context.
• Strong organisational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
• Effective stakeholder engagement with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organisation.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently while incorporating input from various stakeholders; strong team player.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal. French language skills would be an advantage.

Candidate skills & requirements

To be successful in this role you must have :

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Quality Management or in a related technical field (e.g., Avionics, Electronics or Optronics).
• Extensive experience designing, implementing, and managing QMS certified to ISO 9001 standards, and a strong understanding of AS9100, including experience with ISO 45001.
• Strong experience with Continuous Improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma, 5S).
• Proven experience within a defense, aerospace, or similarly regulated manufacturing environment.
• Exposure to project management in system and product lifecycle (from R&D through production to support).
• Lead Auditor certification, Six Sigma Green Belt and AQAP knowledge are highly regarded.
