Job summary

The Salvation Army Australia is seeking a Psychologist, Provisional Psychologist, or Social Worker for the Hunter region to deliver counselling and vocational services to job seekers with complex needs. The role supports clients through assessment, counselling, and case coordination within Employment Plus, with travel across sites as required.

We offer pathways to Accredited Mental Health Social Worker registration, supervision, and structured development for provisional or newly registered

Qualifications

• Knowledge of evidence‑based interventions and clinical practice applied in employment support contexts.
• Experience with mental health conditions and psycho‑social needs, including substances.
• Delivery of counselling services to vulnerable individuals.
• Assessing needs and making referrals to enhance supports.
• Managing people at risk, including suicide and violence risks.
• Knowledge of employment and community services sectors.
• Developing internal and external relationships to meet goals.
• Understanding the role of employment in physical and mental health.
• High energy and passion to motivate others.
• Must hold a current driver’s license and travel to Employment Plus sites.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychological and vocational assessments using appropriate tools.
• Provide counselling and therapeutic interventions to address barriers to employment.
• Offer consultation to employment staff in the region.
• Liaise with internal and external service providers to strengthen links for job seekers.
• Communicate effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds.
