Job summary

Serco in Cairns is seeking a Part-time Psychologist to join a multidisciplinary Defence health team, delivering high-quality mental health care in a unique primary healthcare setting with no Medicare billing.

The role requires Unrestricted AHPRA registration, at least two years of postgraduate mental health experience, and CPD commitment; you will work on-site with Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday shifts, with supportive admin and opportunities for paid CPD leave.

Qualifications

• Unrestricted AHPRA general registration as a Psychologist.
• Minimum two years' postgraduate experience in mental health within a primary healthcare or specialist setting.
• Experience with Focussed Psychological Strategies and Psychological Therapy per Medicare Schedule.
• Current CPR certification HLTAID009.
• Australian Citizenship required for baseline security clearance.
• Commitment to CPD and ethical, patient-centred care.

Responsibilities

• Working on-site delivering high-quality mental health care to Defence members on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
• Conducting fitness-for-duty assessments and pre/post-deployment care.
• Undertaking assessments, interventions, and formulating treatment and care plans for individuals and group education sessions.
• Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary clinical environment where patient wellness is paramount.

About Cairns Health Centre

Cairns Health Centre is located at HMAS Cairns, on the northern shore of Trinity Inlet and close to the CBD of Cairns. Members mainly conduct border controls and responsibility extending from Rockhampton to Thursday Island, providing maintenance, logistic and administrative support for Cairns fleet-based units. The base is home to approximately 1000 Navy and civilian personnel providing primary medical, underwater medicine, dental, nursing, and mental health services. The standard operating hours of the centre are generally 0700-1630 Monday – Thursday depending on role requirements, and a half day (5.5 hours) Friday.

What You Bring

• Unrestricted AHPRA general registration as a Psychologist
• Minimum two years’ Post Graduate experience within last five yearsin mental health within a Primary Healthcare Setting or Specialist Mental Health Setting
• Comprehensive assessment skills and experience in ‘Focussed Psychological Strategies’ and ‘Psychological Therapy’ as per Medicare Schedule
• Current CPR certification (HLTAID009)
• Australian Citizenshiprequiredfor Baseline Security Clearance
• Commitment to CPD and ethical, patient-centred care
