Job summary

CSA Mine, now part of Harmony Australasia, seeks an experienced Project Superintendent for on-site leadership of construction activities near Cobar, NSW. You will supervise Project Engineers, coordinate work sequences, and ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence on site.

Reporting to the Capital Projects Manager, this role operates on a 5/2,4/3 roster with a focus on productivity, cost control, and risk mitigation across copper/gold initiatives.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or relevant discipline).
• 10–15+ years of engineering/project management experience.
• Team leadership and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to coordinate across multiple internal and external stakeholders.

Job description

The CSA Mine is located 11 kilometres north-west of Cobar, central western New South Wales. At 1.9 kilometres deep, it is one of Australia’s deepest underground mines and is Australia’s highest-grade copper mine.

We are proud to have recently joined Harmony Australasia. Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities. CSA Mine has recently joined Harmony Australasia, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter. The acquisition underpins Harmony’s strategy to expand its Australasian footprint and establish a strong, diversified copper portfolio, complemented by the Eva Copper Mine Project in Queensland, currently under construction, and set to become the state’s largest open‑pit copper mine upon commissioning. In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. These assets are supported by the Harmony Australasia regional corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.

We are seeking an experienced Project Superintendent who will be responsible for the day-to-day management of construction activities on a job site. This role ensures that projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and according to plans, specifications, and quality standards. The superintendent serves as the primary on-site leader coordinating subcontractors, trades, suppliers, inspections, and field staff.

The role bridges field execution and project management by maintaining productivity, resolving site issues, and enforcing safety and compliance requirements.

Reporting to the Capital Projects Manager, this role is offered on an 5/2,4/3 days roster.

As Project Superintendent your duties will entail the following, however not limited to:

Manage Project Engineers for all site related projects

Coordinate sequencing of work to maintain project flow and productivity

Conduct daily inspections to monitor progress, workmanship, and safety

Work with project team to maintain short-term and long-term schedules

Coordinate project activities to meet milestone deadlines

Identify schedule risks and implement recovery plans when delays occur

Monitor Project Team productivity and resource allocation

Lead weekly coordination and look-ahead planning meetings – include all people

Enforce company safety policies and regulatory requirements

Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety violations

Maintain safety documentation and inspection records

Assist project team in controlling project costs and minimizing rework

Identify scope changes and potential management of change with project team

About You:

To be successful, you will bring the following skills, experience and personal attributes:

Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or relevant discipline)

10–15+ years of relevant engineering/project management experience.

Team leadership and conflict resolution

Decision-making under pressure

Strong organizational and multitasking ability

Problem-solving and proactive response to project delay and team management

Ability to motivate contractors and Project Engineers and maintain accountability

Ability to coordinate across multiple internal and external stakeholders
