Job summary

Harmony Australasia seeks an experienced Project Engineer for CSA Mine to plan, coordinate, deliver and commission mining projects safely, on time and within budget. • Strong understanding of project management principles and safety regulations.
• Proficient with scheduling/reporting tools such as MS Project or Primavera.

Job description

The CSA Mine is located 11 kilometres north-west of Cobar, central western New South Wales. At 1.9 kilometres deep, it is one of Australia’s deepest underground mines and is Australia’s highest-grade copper mine.

We are proud to have recently joined Harmony Australasia. Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities. CSA Mine has recently joined Harmony Australasia, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter. The acquisition underpins Harmony’s strategy to expand its Australasian footprint and establish a strong, diversified copper portfolio, complemented by the Eva Copper Mine Project in Queensland, currently under construction, and set to become the state’s largest open‑pit copper mine upon commissioning. In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. These assets are supported by the Harmony Australasia regional corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer who will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivery and commissioning of mining-related projects safely, on time, and within budget. This role supports engineering, construction, maintenance, and operational improvement projects across mine infrastructure, processing plants, civil works, mechanical systems, electrical systems, and underground operations.

The Project Engineer works closely with operations teams, contractors, consultants, and stakeholders to ensure projects meet technical, safety, environmental, and commercial requirements.

Reporting to the Projects Superintendent, this role is offered on an 8/6 days roster.

As Project Engineer, your duties will entail the following, however not limited to:

• Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects and project execution.
• Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including design, procurement, and construction.
• Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and specifications.
• Monitor project progress and provide daily updates inclusive of cost, schedule and risk.
• Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
• Manage relationships with internal / external clients, contractors, and vendors.
• Continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices.
• Promote and maintain a strong safety culture aligned with site standards
• Ensure all works comply with WHS legislation, mining regulations, and company procedures
• Participate in risk assessments, JHAs, toolbox talks, and incident investigations
• Ensure environmental and statutory compliance throughout project execution
• Assist with procurement, tender evaluations, and contractor management
• Review invoices, variations, and progress claims
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements

About You

• Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or relevant discipline)
• Previous experience in mining, construction, heavy industry, or resources projects
• Strong understanding of project management principles
• Knowledge of mining safety regulations and site procedures
• Proficiency with project scheduling and reporting tools (e.g. MS Project, Primavera)
