Job summary

Ora Banda Mining is seeking an experienced Underground Geologist to support the Drive to 300koz+. You will collaborate with the Project Geologist and Mine Geologists to improve geological confidence, map and interpret the deposit, and deliver Grade Control models aligned with the mine plan.

Responsibilities include planning Grade Control drilling, QA/QC of geological data, reporting, and contributing to end-of-month reconciliations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in geology or equivalent.
• 3–5 years underground mine geology experience (gold).
• Member of AIG/AusIMM or equivalent.
• Familiar with Leapfrog and Deswik software.
• Exposure to grade control technologies.

The role

The responsibilities of this role will be:

• Support the OBM Drive to 300koz+ and beyond through underground Resource Conversion, Definition and Exploration drilling, identifying opportunities to increase mine life and improve geological confidence in collaboration with the Project Geologist - Resource.
• Support day-to-day underground geology activities and provide operational coverage for the Senior Mine Geologist and Mine Geologists as required.
• Undertake geological projects including detailed mapping, data analysis, interpretation, sectional work, wireframing and geological/resource modelling to improve understanding of the deposit and mineralisation controls.
• Deliver timely, high-quality Grade Control models aligned with the mine schedule and planning requirements.
• Plan, schedule and supervise Grade Control drilling programs, coordinate underground drill sites and contractors, and drive rig utilisation and drilling performance.
• Analyse completed drilling programs and document key geological findings, outcomes and recommendations to support future drilling and mine planning.
• Complete 3MS reviews and rolling 12-month geological de-risking of scheduled stoping areas, identifying data gaps and geological risks ahead of mining.
• Support development and stope performance through geological input into stope design, Stope Notes and inspections, with a focus on maximising recovery and minimising dilution. Complete Stope Note geology requirements within agreed timeframes.
• Ensure capital and ore development is appropriately mapped, sampled and interpreted, with key geological contacts and features communicated and marked up for Survey and Mining.
• Champion high-quality structural data collection from development mapping and drill core, incorporating structural information into 3D geological interpretations and working with specialist consultants where required.
• Support QA/QC and geological data quality across drilling, sampling, sample preparation, assay and production datasets, including monitoring laboratory performance and trends.
• Assist with end-of-month reconciliation, production analysis and identification of reconciliation trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Contribute to accurate and timely daily, weekly and monthly geological reporting, ensuring key geological risks, opportunities and operational outcomes are clearly communicated.
• Work collaboratively with Geology, Mining, Engineering, Survey, Geotechnical and drilling teams to continually improve geological understanding, operational performance and delivery of the mine plan.

About you

To be considered for the role, you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

• Tertiary qualification Bachelor Science (Geology) or equivalent from a recognised institution
• Minimum 3-5 years’ mine geology experience (underground, gold)
• Member AIG, AusIMM or similar
• Skilled in mining software - Leapfrog, Deswik
• Exposure to current grade control technologies and practices
• Excellent time management to achieve project outcomes
• Demonstrable team working skills
• Good communication skills
• Awareness of the Workplace Health and Safety Act & Regulations
• ERT experience and willingness to join OBM’s ERT is preferred
• Class C WA manual driver’s licence
• Current First Aid certificate
