Job summary

AustCorp Executive in Cairns is seeking a Project Manager with strong structural steel, fabrication and erection experience to take end-to-end delivery of diverse projects. You will lead the programme, manage budgets, coordinate subcontractors and site teams, and drive safe, on-time, on-budget completion.

The role demands hands-on delivery, liaising with clients and principal contractors, and building solid stakeholder relationships within an established regional business.

Qualifications

• Experience in structural steel, steel fabrication, construction or heavy engineering.
• Experience with steel fabrication and erection.
• Strong planning and programming capability.
• Experience managing subcontractors and site teams.
• Commercial understanding of budgets, forecasting, claims and variations.
• Confidence dealing directly with builders, clients and principal contractors.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work autonomously.
• Current Australian driver's licence.

Responsibilities

• Manage structural steel projects from award through to completion.
• Coordinate fabrication, steel erection, site works, labour, deliveries and cranage.
• Develop and manage construction programmes.
• Liaise directly with principal contractors and site-based client teams.
• Coordinate Site Supervisors, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams.
• Attend site inspections, construction meetings and safety meetings.
• Manage project budgets and regularly forecast costs.
• Identify potential budget overruns and take action early.
• Prepare and submit progress claims.
• Identify, price and manage contract variations.
• Manage project procurement and subcontractor packages.
• Review drawings, scope and project requirements.
• Ensure projects meet contractual, quality and WHS requirements.
• Maintain QA and project documentation.
• Build strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
• Support projects at site level when required.

Looking for a move to beautiful Cairns and the opportunity to take ownership of structural steel projects from award through to completion?

We’re partnering with an established North Queensland structural steel fabrication and construction business delivering commercial, industrial and infrastructure projects across the region.

They’re looking for an experienced Project Manager with a strong understanding of construction and ideally structural steel, fabrication or erection.

This is a hands-on delivery role – managing the programme, commercial performance, subcontractors, site activities and client relationship while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget. The role working as part of an experienced Projects team, you'll take responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of structural steel projects.

Project Manager – Structural Steel

There is a strong commercial element to the position – you'll be expected to understand where the project sits financially, manage variations and forecasting and protect the commercial outcome throughout delivery.

About You We're looking for someone who understands how construction projects actually come together – from drawings and fabrication through logistics, cranage, erection and final delivery.

Ideally, you'll bring:

• Previous Project Management experience within structural steel, steel fabrication, construction or heavy engineering
• Experience with steel fabrication and erection
• Strong construction planning and programming capability
• Experience managing subcontractors and site teams
• Commercial understanding of budgets, forecasting, claims and variations
• Confidence dealing directly with builders, clients and principal contractors
• Strong understanding of construction contracts and project delivery
• Excellent organisation and time management skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work autonomously
• Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills
• Trade or tertiary qualifications in Construction, Engineering or a related discipline highly regarded
• Current Australian driver's licence

The company's formal PM criteria specifically prefers steel fabrication and erection experience, while tertiary qualifications are preferred rather than mandatory.
