Job summary

Performance Drivers Pty is recruiting a Project Engineer to lead delivery of integrated building electronics in Canberra. You will oversee design, procurement, installation and commissioning of access management and security systems on construction projects.

The role requires strong technical capability, coordination across teams and compliance with security and safety standards. NV1 clearance or ability to obtain clearance is preferred, with an Australian driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience delivering building automation, access management, security, electrical, or related technology projects.
• Relevant engineering, technical, trade or project management qualification, or equivalent experience.
• Strong understanding of electronic security systems including CCTV, access control and intrusion detection.

Project Engineer - Integrated Building Electronics

An opportunity for an experienced Project Engineer to take a leading role in delivering sophisticated building access management and security systems on construction projects based in Canberra.

We're seeking two Electronic Security Project Engineer with strong technical capabilities and proven experience delivering complex electrical, building automation, access management, security systems, embedded communications or similar projects.

This role combines engineering expertise with hands‑on project coordination, technical oversight and commercial responsibility, working across the full project lifecycle from design and procurement through to commissioning and handover.

The Role

Working closely with project managers, construction teams, contractors and technical specialists, you'll be responsible for ensuring installations are delivered safely, efficiently and to specification.

Key responsibilities include:

• Coordinate the delivery of integrated electronic access management and security platforms.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, system architectures and technical documentation.
• Coordinate installation teams, subcontractors, procurement and project schedules.
• Provide technical direction and resolve engineering, installation and integration issues.
• Monitor project milestones, budgets, costs, variations and quality requirements.
• Oversee system testing, commissioning, documentation and final handover.
• Liaise with builders, consultants and stakeholders to ensure technical and contractual requirements are met.

About You

You'll bring a combination of technical knowledge, sound project delivery experience and the ability to coordinate multiple activities within a complex construction environment.

Essential requirements:

• Minimum 5 years' experience delivering building automation, access management, security, electrical, communications or related technology projects.
• Relevant engineering, technical, trade or project management qualification, or equivalent experience.
• Strong understanding of electronic security systems, including CCTV, access control, intrusion detection and system integration.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, schedules and contractual requirements.
• Proven project coordination, planning and problem‑solving skills.
• Current NV1 clearance, or Australian citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain NV1 clearance.
• Appropriate ACT security licence or recognised equivalent for the activities performed.
• Current Australian driver's licence.

Highly regarded:

• Experience delivering security systems within major construction projects.
• Knowledge of IP networking, integrated electronics platforms and structured cabling.
• Experience managing subcontractors, procurement, project costs and variations.
• Familiarity with relevant Australian Standards and security compliance requirements.
