Job summary

General Mills in Rooty Hill, NSW, is seeking an experienced Senior Controls Engineer to provide technical leadership across electrical and controls systems and to support plant performance across production lines.

You will lead architecture across PLCs, networks, servers, motion control, VFDs and instrumentation, troubleshoot to improve reliability, and develop standards while supporting shutdowns and efficiency initiatives. Strong PLC and HMI skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary engineering qualification or trade with strong controls expertise.
  • Electrical license preferred.
  • Strong experience in electrical and controls within manufacturing/FMCG.
  • Advanced PLC programming capability, ideally Allen Bradley.
  • Advanced HMI experience (PanelView and/or Wonderware InTouch).
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical and controls architecture across PLCs, networks, servers, motion control, VFDs and instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot and improve plant controls to support reliability and performance.
  • Develop electrical/controls standards and support shutdowns, efficiency initiatives, and long-term improvements.
  • Support site by solving chronic plant issues, monitoring vendor updates, and identifying opportunities with emerging tech.
  • Collaborate with electricians, Maintenance, Operations, Engineering to resolve issues and build capability.
  • Assist with defining scope for electrical/controls in future automation projects and provide project delivery support.
  • Coach and develop technical capability, including support for the Controls Engineer role.
  • Champion safety, quality and compliance across all electrical/controls activities.

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Controls Engineer to provide technical leadership across electrical and controls systems, support plant performance and help deliver strategic improvements across our production lines.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role is responsible for providing site leadership across electrical and controls systems, while supporting safe, reliable and efficient manufacturing performance.

You will:
  • Lead the site’s electrical and controls architecture across PLCs, networks, servers, motion control systems, VFDs and instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot and improve plant controls systems to support operational reliability and performance.
  • Develop and apply electrical and controls standards, while supporting shutdowns, efficiency initiatives and long-term technical improvement.
  • Support the site by solving chronic plant issues, monitoring vendor updates and identifying opportunities to improve performance through emerging technologies.
  • Partner with electricians, Maintenance, Operations, Engineering and other functions to resolve technical issues and build capability across the site.
  • Support project delivery by helping define electrical and controls scope and assisting with future automation and control system implementation.
  • Coach and develop technical capability within the team, including support for the Controls Engineer role.
  • Champion strong safety, quality and compliance standards across all electrical and controls activities.
About you
  • A tertiary engineering qualification, or a trade and electrical background with strong controls expertise.
  • Electrical license preferred.
  • Strong experience in electrical and controls roles within manufacturing, FMCG or a similar industrial environment.
  • Advanced PLC programming capability, ideally Allen Bradley.
  • Advanced HMI experience, including PanelView and/or Wonderware InTouch.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
