Job summary

Macmahon, a leading underground mining contractor, is seeking a Project Engineer to support delivery of underground operations by working with Project Managers and site teams to drive performance and commercial outcomes. Based at Snowy River Gold Mine Project – Reefton, NZ, you’ll gain exposure to industry-leading equipment and large-scale projects and develop toward senior technical and leadership roles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• Strong commercial, financial and analytical skills, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost management and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with experience using SAP and Power BI for project reporting and performance analysis.
• Excellent communication, planning and stakeholder engagement skills, with a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Support the Project Manager in delivering operational, financial and contractual project objectives.
• Prepare and monitor project budgets, forecasts, schedules and performance reporting.
• Analyse operational and financial data to identify opportunities to improve productivity, utilisation and profitability.
• Assist with commercial activities including progress claims, contract variations, dayworks and tender submissions.
• Collaborate with operational teams to optimise project outcomes, resource utilisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain compliance with safety, contractual and statutory requirements while ensuring accurate project documentation and reporting.

About the Role

As a Project Engineer, you will support the successful delivery of underground mining operations by working closely with Project Managers and site teams to drive performance, improve productivity and achieve strong commercial outcomes.

What You’ll Bring

• Previous experience in a Project Engineer, Mining Engineer or similar technical role within underground or contract mining and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• Strong commercial, financial and analytical skills, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost management and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with experience using SAP and Power BI for project reporting and performance analysis.
• Excellent communication, planning and stakeholder engagement skills, with a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.
• Valid Class 1 (unrestricted manual) New Zealand drivers licence (essential).
• Location: Snowy River Gold Mine Project – Reefton, New Zealand’s South Island
• Roster: 7:7 (Local) or 14:14 (FIFO)
• Accommodation allowance provided for local personnel
• Flights, transport and accommodation provided for FIFO personnel
