Leica Biosystems, a Danaher operating company, invites you to join as Program Manager in Mount Waverley, Victoria, onsite. You will lead development and delivery of innovative medical device instrumentation, software and consumables, guiding cross-functional teams from concept to commercialization.

The role requires 3 years PM experience and 5+ years leading cross-functional product development; experience with electro-mechanical products and DBS/Lean is a plus.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of program management experience with proven delivery of complex programs.
  • 5+ years leading cross-functional product development through full SDLC.
  • Experience bringing electro-mechanical products from development to commercial launch.
  • Engineering or science qualification; PMI or PRINCE2 certification is a plus.
  • Experience in medical device, diagnostics, life sciences or scientific instrumentation industry is advantageous.
  • Lean, Continuous Improvement or DBS methodologies experience is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional programs from concept through manufacturing transfer and commercialization.
  • Own scope, resources, risk, budget, schedule and technical performance end-to-end.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and Lead Engineer to deliver high-value projects.
  • Develop integrated program plans and govern multiple workstreams.
  • Proactively manage risks, issues, dependencies and decisions.
  • Report progress and metrics to senior leadership.

The Program Manager is responsible for leading the development and delivery of innovative medical device instrumentation, software and associated consumables and ancillaries. This role drives complex, cross-functional programs from concept through commercialization, ensuring delivery against business objectives, customer needs, quality standards, timelines, and financial targets.

This position reports to the Director, Program Management Office and is part of the Advanced Staining Instrument Business Unit located in Mount Waverley, Victoria. As the programs delivered by this team transition directly into manufacturing, close collaboration with R&D, Operations, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing teams is critical to success. For this reason, this is a fully on-site role, providing direct engagement with stakeholders and hands‑on support throughout development, transfer to manufacturing, and product launch.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

Lead complex cross-functional programs from concept through manufacturing transfer and commercialization, taking end-to-end accountability for scope, resources, risk, budget, schedule and technical performance.

Partner with Product Management and Program Lead Engineer to deliver high value projects that maximise customer impact, accelerate time-to-market and optimize technical solutions.

Develop and execute integrated program plans, ensuring alignment across multiple workstreams stakeholders.

Drive program governance, proactively managing risks, issues, dependencies and critical decisions to ensure successful outcomes.

Monitor and communicate program progress, milestones and performance metrics to senior leadership and key stakeholders.

Foster collaboration, accountability and a high-performance culture across multidisciplinary teams.

Champion DBS principles and continue improvement methodologies to enhance program execution and business results.

The essential requirements of the job include

Minimum 3 years of program management experience, including successful delivery of at least 2 complex programs.

Minimum 5 years of leading cross-functional product development projects through the full systems development lifecycle.

Demonstrated success bringing complex electro-mechanical products from development through to commercial launch.

Accredited with a professional, engineering or science qualification or in a formal program or project management field (e.g. PMI, PRINCE 2).

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

The field of medical device, diagnostics, life sciences or scientific instrumentation industry.

Manufacturing, product sustainment and operations supporting complex electro-mechanical products.

Applying Lean, Continuous Improvement or DBS methodologies within product development activities.
