Job summary

Carine Senior High School within the Department of Education, Western Australia, seeks a Program Coordinator – Student Services to lead attendance, behaviour and wellbeing initiatives. The role is pivotal for improving engagement, developing whole-school strategies and supporting students at educational risk.

A teaching load may be attached at times, and leadership duties span the Student Services Team and Senior Management Team.

Qualifications

We are seeking to establish a pool of Program Coordinator – Student Services for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2027 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

Carine SHS is seeking to appoint highly focused and enthusiastic leaders to the role of Program Coordinator – Student Services. This is a pivotal leadership position in a school with a culture of high performance and high care. Suitable applicants will ideally provide strategic leadership to improve the engagement, attendance, behaviour and wellbeing of our students.

• leading attendance case management and the strategies that support improved student attendance;
• leading student behaviour management, including the consistent application of the Department’s Student Behaviour in Public Schools policy and procedures and the School’s Good Standing policy;
• leading the semester review of Attitude, Behaviour and Effort (ABE) data and translating the findings into whole-school action;
• convening the Student Services Support Team and leading the referral and case management process for students at educational risk;
• contributing as an active member of the Student Services Team, the wellbeing committee and the Senior Management Team; and
• developing, leading and evaluating whole-school initiatives that strengthen student engagement, connectedness and positive relationships, including parent and community information sessions.
• This role may or may not have a teaching load attached to it.

Suitable applicants will ideally be highly effective communicators who build trust quickly with students, staff and families, and who provide clear, timely and constructive feedback. They will ideally bring sound professional knowledge of contemporary, evidence-informed approaches to behaviour, attendance and wellbeing, including tiered support, trauma-informed and restorative practice, together with the judgement to apply them consistently, and the capacity to hold high expectations of students while supporting them to meet those expectations.

Ideally, suitable applicants will also possess excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and the capacity to conceptualise and analyse information, including student and school-wide data, in order to identify issues and generate creative and appropriate solutions. Our school relies heavily on electronic communication systems and internal databases to track, monitor and communicate student progress, and you will be confident and accurate in working within them.
