Job summary

Newman Senior High School seeks a Program Coordinator – Innovations and Industry to lead a significant school-wide initiative connecting classroom learning with real-world workplaces. This is a 23 month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2027 with possible extension and/or permanency.

The Role

As Program Coordinator – Innovations and Industry, you will be a conscientious, flexible and innovative educator and a leader committed to the development of the whole student. You will be actively involved within the school and wider community, highly reflective in your practice and committed to evidence-informed decision‑making and differentiated approaches that respond to the needs, strengths and aspirations of individual students.

This is a unique opportunity to lead a significant initiative established through the Pilbara Education Partnership. The Innovations and Industry program aims to develop clear and meaningful pathways for all students, improve their engagement with workplaces and prepare young people for a changing world of work. The program supports students to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to connect effectively with their communities and transition successfully into employment, further education or training.

A key focus of the role will be embedding a whole-school career development culture and overseeing the continued development of Individual Pathway Plans for students across Years 7–12. The successful applicant will work closely with students, families and school staff to ensure that pathways reflect each student’s interests, strengths and aspirations.

The Program Coordinator will continue to expand workplace learning and training opportunities for students, including work experience, school-based traineeships and apprenticeships. They will build awareness among local businesses and industry of the benefits of engaging with young people through these programs and strengthen the number of students successfully transitioning from school into employment, further education or training.

The role will strengthen partnerships with employers, industry, TAFE, Registered Training Organisations, agencies and community organisations. It will also support the school’s partnership with the School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE), oversee the continued development of the school-based traineeship program and provide strategic and operational oversight of the Trade Training Centre.

An in-depth understanding of vocational education and training in schools would be an advantage, as oversight of senior school pathways and post-school options is a significant component of the role. The successful applicant will also be responsible for meeting Pilbara Education Partnership contractual deliverables, including quarterly, biannual and annual reporting requirements, monitoring the partnership budget and evaluating the impact of program activities.
