Job summary

Lime Recruitment is partnering with a Queensland government client to recruit a Principal Technical Specialist. You will join the Cyber Security Program to lead deployment, upgrade, and management of enterprise firewall replacements (Checkpoint and Palo Alto) to enable enhanced digital health service delivery across Queensland.

Extensive hands-on firewall experience, policy optimization, and collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams are essential.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Check Point firewalls in enterprise deployments.
• Practical Palo Alto, SWG, and policy management capabilities.
• Strong experience with firewall integration using Cisco routing/switching.
• Proficiency with NSPM tools like AlgoSec and monitoring via SolarWinds.
• Familiarity with ITIL-based incident/problem/change management in ServiceNow.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end deployment, upgrades, and configuration of Check Point firewalls as the primary platform.
• Provide expert support for Palo Alto, SWG, and F5 solutions and operational transition.
• Optimize firewall environments and integrate with Cisco routing/switching for connectivity and security.
• Coordinate firewall rule bases and policy optimization using AlgoSec NSPM.
• Monitor performance with SolarWinds and deliver root cause analysis and technical leadership.

Lime Recruitment is currently working with a Queensland government client to recruit a Principal Technical Specialist. In this role, you will join the Cyber Security Program to play a key technical lead role in the deployment, upgrade, and management of enterprise firewall replacements (Checkpoint and Palo Alto) to enable enhanced digital health service delivery across Queensland.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the end-to-end deployment, upgrade, and configuration of Check Point firewalls as the primary platform, while providing expert support for Palo Alto solutions, F5 (LTM/GTM/WAF), and transitioning new capability into operations.

Support and optimise firewall environments across Check Point firewalls and Palo Alto Secure Web Gateway (SWG), ensuring alignment with security standards and enterprise service levels.

Integrate firewall solutions using Cisco routing and switching to maintain seamless connectivity, high availability, and network security.

Assist in orchestrating firewall rule bases and policy optimisation via the AlgoSec (NSPM) platform to ensure continuous compliance and governance.

Monitor firewall performance and health using SolarWinds, proactively identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving complex technical issues.

Develop and maintain high-quality technical documentation including solution designs, ICT Change plans, implementation plans, testing, and configuration artefacts.

Provide advanced tier-3 troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and technical leadership to project teams, operational units, and external suppliers.

Contribute to the evolution of the firewall and network security strategy by researching and advising on emerging technologies and best practices.

About You

Extensive hands‑on technical experience with Check Point firewall technologies (build, replacement, upgrades, SmartConsole, troubleshooting, and policy optimisation).

Practical expertise in Palo Alto capabilities, Secure Web Gateway (SWG), and policy management in enterprise deployments.

Strong background in Cisco routing and switching, specifically relating to firewall integration and enterprise network security.

Demonstrated experience with rulebase management, policy orchestration, and compliance using AlgoSec (or equivalent NSPM tools).

Proficiency with SolarWinds or similar enterprise monitoring platforms for firewall health monitoring and performance reporting.

Proven experience with F5 GTM, LTM, and WAF solutions, as well as gateway/proxy security technologies.

Demonstrated ability to quickly apply ITIL Service Management processes (incident, problem, change, and configuration management via ServiceNow).

Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills to lead technical direction and collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams.
