Job summary

BoomData in Sydney is seeking a Principal Technical Consultant – Data & AI to drive day-to-day delivery of data and AI platform engagements, from POCs through implementation. You will own the technical direction, contribute to architecture, and ensure on-time delivery.

About the Role

To support our growth, we're looking for a Principal Technical Consultant – Data & AI to work alongside our Principal Consultants, driving the day-to-day delivery of data and AI platform engagements, from POCs through implementation. Our principals own the consulting relationship, lead the client conversation on use cases, and drive the data strategy and architecture approach.

You pick that up and run with delivery, bringing real technical input into the architecture and design discussions, and turning a strong architecture direction into a well-executed platform.

You should be able to walk into a client conversation, follow the business context quickly, and contribute a sound technical perspective without needing it spelled out.

You'll direct the technical delivery team on each engagement, onshore and offshore, to get it landed on time, to standard, and to budget. In many cases you'll be leading a team, but you also need to be comfortable getting in and doing the work yourself when that's what a project calls for.

What we're looking for

• 10+ years hands-on experience across data engineering, data warehousing and modern cloud data platforms — a genuine builder who's happy running solo on a project as much as leading a team, not a project manager
• Deep, hands-on data warehousing and data management expertise — someone who's spent real years building and running data platforms, not just architecting them at a high level
• Technical depth across Microsoft Fabric and/or Databricks
• A track record of contributing to architecture and design, and delivering strong technical outcomes on real client engagements
• Comfortable running POCs and contributing meaningfully to architecture and design discussions
• Quick to pick up business context — you shouldn't need a principal to translate what a client actually needs
• Strong communication and client-facing skills — you'll be visible to clients day to day, even though the principal owns the relationship
• Demonstrated experience leading technical delivery teams, even at a small scale
• Confident and secure in your own expertise — a genuine team player who values the strengths of the smart people around you
• Genuinely curious about AI — using AI tools in delivery work, and able to speak credibly to AI opportunities when the conversation goes there
• Strong consulting or professional services background — essential
