Job summary

AECOM Adelaide Buildings & Places team is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer with expertise in advanced structural analysis. The role supports complex, high-risk projects across defence and energy, with responsibility for leading analysis techniques and technical assurance.

Based in Adelaide, with openness to Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane, you will apply Australian Standards and international codes, mentor team members, and drive best-practice in advanced analysis and design outcomes.

Qualifications

Bachelor degree in Civil/Structural Engineering; postgraduate dynamics/earthquake engineering desirable.
10+ years in structural engineering with focus on advanced analysis and complex behaviour.
Experience in nonlinear analysis, performance-based seismic design and soil–structure interaction.
Strong knowledge of Australian Standards; experience applying international design codes.
Proficiency with ETABS, SAP2000, Perform-3D, STAAD.Pro, PLAXIS, SpaceGASS; MathCAD for calculations.
Interest in scripting/computational design and ETABS/SAP2000 Python API.

Responsibilities

Act as a senior technical specialist in advanced structural analysis for high-risk projects across defence and energy.
Lead application of linear/non-linear analysis and performance-based seismic design.
Provide independent technical assurance and review of non-standard designs as a senior checker.
Interpret and apply Australian Standards and international codes; develop compliance strategies.
Translate analytical outputs into clear, practical design recommendations for multidisciplinary teams.
Contribute to best-practice development and mentor engineers in advanced analysis.
