Job summary

Beca Pty. Ltd. in Australia seeks a Principal Secondary Design Engineer to lead delivery of secondary, protection and SCADA designs for HV substations, while mentoring engineers and shaping project outcomes. You will collaborate across Australasia and guide multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex power infrastructure.

You will engage with clients, review designs for quality and compliance, and contribute to capability growth and innovation within the Power team.

Qualifications

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Principal Secondary Design Engineer to join our growing Power business. This is a senior technical leadership opportunity for an experienced engineer who is passionate about delivering complex substation design projects while mentoring and developing the next generation of engineers. Working as part of our multidisciplinary Power team, you'll provide technical leadership across a range of transmission and distribution projects, helping our clients deliver critical infrastructure that supports communities and industries across Australasia. You'll collaborate with technical specialists across New Zealand and Australia and contribute to some of the region's most significant energy projects. This role offers the opportunity to combine hands-on technical delivery with people leadership, client engagement, quality assurance and strategic project input.

What you'll be doing

Providing technical leadership for the delivery and review of secondary, protection, control and SCADA designs across transmission and distribution substation projects.

Acting as a trusted advisor to clients and project teams, ensuring high-quality, compliant and practical engineering solutions.

Leading multidisciplinary teams across New Zealand and Australia to successfully deliver complex power infrastructure projects.

Mentoring and developing engineers and designers while contributing to capability growth, innovation and continuous improvement across the Power team.

About You

You're a recognised secondary systems engineer with deep technical expertise and a passion for developing people, building client relationships and delivering complex power projects. You'll bring:

A relevant Electrical Engineering qualification and extensive experience delivering secondary and protection system designs for high-voltage transmission and distribution networks.

Demonstrated technical leadership, including design review, quality assurance, client engagement and the ability to guide project teams through complex engineering challenges.

Strong knowledge of substation protection, control and SCADA systems, together with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

A collaborative leadership style, a commitment to mentoring others, and eligibility to work in Australia. Chartered status or progress towards chartership is advantageous.
