Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical preferred, other disciplines considered).
• Extensive SMP engineering experience in minerals processing or heavy industry.
• Experience in client-side, EPC or EPCM roles and managing technical risk.
• Proven ability to resolve engineering and construction issues on brownfield sites.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior technical and project leadership for SMP delivery.
• Govern EPC Contractor's structural, mechanical and piping work and reviews.
• Monitor EPC Contractor performance against schedule, standards and quality.
• Support constructability reviews and field delivery of SMP works.
• Provide commissioning support and resolve field issues.

• Support risk management and reporting to stakeholders.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams including EI&C, metallurgy, and operations.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Project Engineer – Structural, Mechanical & Piping (SMP) to join our team, working directly with a tier-one mining client on the delivery of major capital projects at an operating minerals processing site in regional Australia. This is a consulting role, not a permanent site position – you’ll be engaged on assignment as part of the client’s owner’s team, providing client-side SMP engineering leadership and technical oversight of an EPC Contractor from design through to commissioning.

This role suits an experienced client-side, EPC or EPCM SMP engineer looking to make the switch into consulting, or an existing consultant, bringing genuine hands-on project delivery and field engineering experience in a brownfield or operating environment into a client advisory setting.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Providing senior technical and project engineering leadership for civil and SMP delivery on behalf of the client
• Providing technical governance over the EPC Contractor’s structural, mechanical and piping engineering, including review and approval of models, drawings, specifications and technical queries
• Monitoring EPC Contractor performance against project requirements, engineering standards, quality and schedule
• Supporting constructability reviews, execution planning and field delivery of SMP works
• Providing senior SMP technical support through construction, pre-commissioning and commissioning, including timely resolution of field issues
• Overseeing owner-managed procurement and construction packages, including technical input into packages, vendor data reviews and contractor interfaces
• Managing engineering and delivery risks and ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards and site requirements
• Supporting the management of scope, cost and schedule, and preparing project reporting for a wide range of stakeholder groups
• Providing technical direction to a multidisciplinary project team, including design, EI&C, metallurgy and operational readiness
• Building strong working relationships with client stakeholders, from EPC engineering and construction teams through to operations, maintenance, procurement and project leadership
• Working cross-shift across roster handovers to maintain continuity of project delivery
• Contributing to the continuous improvement of Xenco’s project delivery and engineering consulting methodologies, tools and frameworks

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical preferred; other relevant engineering disciplines considered)
• Extensive experience in SMP engineering for minerals processing or heavy industrial projects, genuine site-based construction and commissioning experience is essential
• Experience in client-side, EPC or EPCM roles, including reviewing engineering deliverables, managing technical risk and overseeing contractors
• Demonstrated experience resolving engineering and construction issues in an operating or brownfield environment
