Job summary

Hitachi Rail in Brisbane, Australia seeks a Principal Project Engineer to lead diverse rail signalling projects. The role spans administration to strategic tasks within a fast-paced environment, based in Brisbane.

The successful candidate will bring 5+ years in project engineering for rail systems, experience with ETCS/ERTMS/CBTC, and strong stakeholder management, with a focus on safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering or Computer Science with relevant rail/track systems background.
• 5+ years in a Project Engineering role, preferably in rail, systems and signalling.
• Experience in turnkey rail signalling projects delivering ETCS/ERTMS/CBTC.
• Experience in effective resource management with a large multicultural team.
• Experience in real-time system engineering, testing/integration, software verification and safety-critical techniques.
• Agile mindset with ability to make prompt decisions in challenging environments.
• Ability to analyse data and draw insights to inform decisions.
• Ability to build and maintain key stakeholder relationships.

Responsibilities

• Manage engineering delivery, changes, and risk control.
• Conduct design reviews and manage configurations.

Job Description

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Principal Project Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Brisbane, Australia.

Key responsibilities:

• Planning of engineering activities in conjunction with the Project Manager, system and subsystem design teams

• Engineering management, delivery, and change management

• Design review and management

• Engineering status reporting incl. risk reviews

• Technical approvals and configuration management

• Systems engineering

• Ensuring all activities undertaken are conducted with due regard to a high level of continuous improvement

• Ensuring all activities undertaken are conducted with due regard to a high level of safety

Key knowledge and experience:

• Degree in Engineering or Computer Science with background in Electrical/Mechanical/Systems Engineering.

• 5+ years of experience in a Project Engineering role, with experience in rail, systems and signalling.

• Experience in turnkey projects(within rail signalling) highly desirable,particularlydelivering systems such as ETCS, ERTMS and CBTC.

• Experience in effective resource management and working with a large multi-cultural team.

• Experience in real-time system engineering; testing and integration activities, software verification and validation best practices and safety critical techniques.

• Agile mindset, able to take prompt decisions in a challenging environment.

• Ability to analyse data and draw insights to inform decision-making.

• Ability to form and build key stakeholder relationships.
