Job summary

BHP is seeking a Principal Engineer Mechanical based in Adelaide to provide technical leadership across Copper SA assets such as Olympic Dam, Carrapateena and Prominent Hill. The role focuses on asset integrity, reliability and engineering governance to ensure safe production.

You will work with operations, maintenance and projects, mentor engineers, influence senior stakeholders, and drive standards. A Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering with CPEng status and extensive mining experience are

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with CPEng eligibility or status.
• Significant mining, minerals processing or heavy industrial experience.
• Deep expertise in fixed plant mechanical systems (conveyors, crushers, mills, pumps).
• Knowledge of Australian and international codes and standards.
• Experience in asset integrity, inspections and remaining-life assessments.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for mechanical engineering across Copper SA operations.
• Approve designs, deviations and fitness-for-service assessments for critical assets.
• Develop mechanical engineering standards, specifications and governance.
• Drive asset integrity programs including inspections and life assessments.
• Lead incident investigations and ensure lessons are applied.
• Mentor engineers and engage with operations and maintenance teams.
