Job summary

BHP's Copper South Australia Engineering team seeks a Mechanical Engineer to deliver specialist technical expertise across a large mining and metals processing operation in Adelaide. You will resolve complex engineering challenges, improve asset performance, and lead safety in design while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to sustain safe, reliable operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) and eligibility for Engineers Australia Chartered Professional Engineer (MIEAust).
• Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles in mining/minerals processing/heavy industry environments.
• Experience with mechanical systems: bulk material handling, pipework, pumps, valves, tanks, pressure equipment, hydraulics and slurry systems.
• Experience applying Safety in Design and integrating risk assessment into engineering solutions.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with ability to lead across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate visible safety leadership and engage with stakeholders across the operation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to solve complex engineering challenges.
• Generate and review engineering designs, technical assessments and reports.
• Provide specialist mechanical engineering expertise while ensuring compliance with standards and governance.
