Job summary

BHP is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for Copper SA Operations in Adelaide, SA. You will deliver specialist mechanical expertise across a large mining and metals processing operation, solving technical challenges while prioritising safety, reliability, and sustainable performance.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, review designs and documents, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across assets, sites and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and eligibility for Chartered Professional Engineer (MIEAust).
• Strong mechanical engineering principles developed in mining, minerals processing or heavy industry.
• Experience with bulk material handling, piping, pumps, valves, tanks and hydraulic systems.
• Safety in Design principles and risk assessment integrated into engineering solutions.
• Excellent communication and leadership across multidisciplinary teams.
• Analytical mindset with attention to detail and sound engineering judgement.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate visible safety leadership and engage with stakeholders.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to solve complex engineering challenges.
• Generate and review engineering designs, assessments and reports.
• Provide specialist mechanical expertise while ensuring standards compliance.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation and drawings.
• Support continuous improvement to enhance safety, reliability and performance.
• Build relationships with operational teams, suppliers, contractors and consultants.
• Champion sustainability, risk management and design-for-safety practices.
