Job summary

SLR Consulting is seeking a Principal Engineering Consultant - Mining Advisory based in Perth to provide technical, operational and project advisory across feasibility studies, lender advisory engagements, due diligence reviews and independent technical assessments for mining and infrastructure projects.

You will work with mining companies, financiers and investors, shaping investment decisions while leading multidisciplinary teams and contributing to business development and knowledge sharing

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer under Western Australia scheme or eligibility.
• Minimum 10 years of mining industry experience in engineering, maintenance, asset management or project leadership.

About the role

Based in Perth, this role provides technical, operational, engineering, asset management and project advisory expertise across feasibility studies, lender advisory assignments, due diligence reviews, independent technical reviews, operational improvement initiatives and investment decision processes for mining, processing and infrastructure projects. Working closely with mining companies, financiers, investors and project developers, you'll help shape major investment, development and operational decisions across the resource sector.

The role requires extensive mining industry experience in engineering, maintenance, infrastructure, asset management, project delivery or operational leadership functions, including direct experience in site-based mining operational roles and or site-based leadership teams. Strong financial acumen coupled with skills in technical evaluation, maintenance strategy, infrastructure assessment, asset management, operational readiness and project execution are essential.

The successful candidate will engage with stakeholders from operations through to executive management, boards, financiers and investors, while contributing to business development, proposal preparation, and the continued growth of SLR's Mining Advisory business.

What you'll be doing

Key responsibilities include:

• Advisory & Evaluation: Deliver financial, commercial, and technical assessments across mining studies, lender advisory engagements, due diligence reviews, and investment evaluations.
• Project Delivery: Lead and contribute to advisory projects, ensuring delivery to agreed scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
• Client Engagement: Build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders, clearly communicating complex information across technical, operational, and executive audiences.
• Reporting & Recommendations: Prepare, review, and present technical reports, assessment and recommendations that support financing, investment approval, and project development decisions.
• Business Development: Support business growth through client relationship management, proposal development, tender submissions, and identification of new opportunities.
• Leadership & Mentoring: Mentor consultants and emerging professionals, while contributing to technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement across the team.

What we're looking for

To be successful in your application, we are looking for the following:

Relevant Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Current registration of a Professional Engineer under the Western Australia engineering registration scheme or , eligibility to obtain this status.

Mining Industry Experience: Extensive experience in senior engineering, maintenance, asset management, infrastructure, project delivery, reliability, or operational leadership roles within the mining sector. Demonstrated experience supporting mining operations, site-based leadership teams, or major mining projects. A minimum of 10 years' relevant experience in the mining industry is required.

Engineering & Operational Expertise: Strong capability in asset management, maintenance strategy, infrastructure evaluation, operational readiness, project execution, reliability improvement, and operational performance assessment. Sound understanding of mining operations, fixed plant, mobile equipment, maintenance systems, and project delivery frameworks. Experience in Lenders' Engineering or Independent Engineer roles will be highly regarded.

Stakeholder Management Skills: Proven ability to build trusted relationships and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders at all levels, from site operations through to executive, board, lender, and investor groups.
