Job summary

CommBank seeks a Principal Data Scientist to lead independent validation of ML and AI models, including GenAI and agentic systems, across the Group. You will assess fitness, risk and governance alignment, and mentor other data scientists.

You will design validation plans, challenge senior stakeholders, and drive best practices, tooling and standards in AI validation, with hands-on coding and architecture work across PyTorch, SageMaker and GenAI tooling.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in developing, evaluating or validating ML/AI, GenAI or statistical models or equivalent depth.
• Independent judgement with ability to provide credible challenge to senior stakeholders.
• Hands‑on experience with GenAI tooling and multi‑agent architectures; strong debugging and validation instincts.

Responsibilities

• Lead validation of ML/AI models and GenAI systems, designing structured validation plans.
• Provide independent risk opinions and challenge to governance stakeholders.
• Mentor data scientists and improve AI validation practices, tooling and standards.
