BHP in Moranbah, Queensland, is seeking an experienced community engagement and social performance practitioner to join our Queensland Corporate Affairs team. Lead community engagement, stakeholder partnerships, social performance and social risk management across BHP and BMA’s Queensland operations.

Based in Moranbah, you will advise leaders, connect with Bowen Basin communities, ensure insights inform decision‑making, and strengthen social value ambitions.

Qualifications

  • Experienced community practitioner with the ability to influence senior leaders, workforce groups and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships with local governments, agencies and regional stakeholders.
  • Experience delivering stakeholder engagement, social investment or social performance initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of social performance and reputation risk in regional communities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a visible presence across Bowen Basin regional communities through engagement, forums, and events.
  • Develop and execute engagement plans that support respectful and inclusive stakeholder engagement.
  • Partner with community organisations to align social investments with priorities and business goals.
  • Represent community perspectives in business planning to support informed outcomes.
  • Advise leaders on community sentiment, risks, reputation matters and regional issues.
  • Identify and support management of social risks related to priorities and regional change.
  • Work in-line with BHP standards, compliance frameworks and social performance requirements.

About The Role

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced community engagement and social performance practitioner to join BHP’s Queensland Corporate Affairs team.

In this influential role, you will lead community engagement, stakeholder partnerships, social performance and social risk management across BHP and BMA’s Queensland operations and regional communities.

Based in Moranbah, reporting to the Manager Community Queensland, you will be a trusted adviser to leaders and a key connector between BHP, BMA’s Bowen Basin operations and regional stakeholders, ensuring community insights inform decision-making, strengthen social performance outcomes and support BHP and BMA’s reputation and social value ambitions.

In This Role You Will
  • Maintain a visible and trusted presence across Bowen Basin regional communities through regular community engagement, stakeholder forums, local government interactions and community events.
  • Develop and execute engagement plans that support respectful, effective and inclusive stakeholder engagement.
  • Partner with community organisations to understand local needs and support social investment projects aligned to community priorities and business objectives.
  • Represent community perspectives in business planning and decision-making to support practical, informed and proactive outcomes.
  • Advise leaders on community sentiment, social performance, stakeholder risks, reputation matters and regional issues.
  • Identify, assess and support the management of social and community-related risks associated with operational priorities and regional change.
  • Work in-line with BHP standards, compliance frameworks and community, human rights and social performance requirements.
About You
  • You are an experienced community practitioner with the judgement, relationship-building and communication skills to influence senior leaders, workforce groups and community stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships with local governments, agencies, community organisations, industry and regional stakeholders.
  • Experience developing and delivering stakeholder engagement, social investment, community development or social performance initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of community sentiment, stakeholder expectations, social performance and reputation risk, including experience navigating complex community issues.
  • You work with care, integrity and collaboration, creating an inclusive team environment where people feel supported, trusted and empowered to do their best work, and actively share learning and best practice with others.
  • A professional qualification in community development, regional development, communications, commerce or another relevant field.
  • Experience working in Corporate Affairs or a related external affairs function, including in regional or remote communities. Previous experience working in the resources sector, or a strong understanding of the sector and regional communities, will be highly regarded.
