Job summary

Based in Newman, Western Australia, this site-based role leads the Eastern Pilbara Control Systems Operations team to deliver safety, availability, reliability, and production improvements across WAIO Newman and Jimblebar.

Reporting to the WAIO Control Systems Manager, you will drive continuous improvement, manage downtime investigations and root-cause analysis, and support governance and cybersecurity initiatives within the scope.

• Ability to implement change through influence and be agile in meeting customer needs.
• Collaborative and solution-focused, able to work well under pressure.
• Strong understanding of engineering processes and operational context.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Eastern Pilbara Control Systems Operations team to deliver safety, availability, reliability, project uplift and production improvements.
• Deliver initiatives to improve safety, reliability, throughput and reduce risks in Control Systems.
• Investigate downtime root causes and develop solutions to prevent recurrence, maximise MTBF and minimise MTTR.
• Serve as material risk owner and service owner for Eastern Pilbara control systems, including governance and cybersecurity support.

About the Role

Based in Newman, this role offers a diverse range of opportunities and experiences in Control Systems and associated Operational Technologies spanning Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) Newman and Jimblebar.

Reporting to the Manager WAIO Control Systems, you will lead the Eastern Pilbara Control Systems Operations team to deliver safety, availability, reliability, project uplift and production improvements.

This role offers a dynamic and exciting scope with a real opportunity to make a difference. You will be supported by a great team with strong technical capability in a collaborative working environment.

This position is a site-based role on a 5/2, 4/3 FIFO roster.

In this role, your key accountabilities will include:

• Lead the team to ensure safety, culture, volume and cost plans are achieved
• Deliver initiatives to support continuous improvement focused on improving safety, increasing reliability, increasing throughput and reducing risks associated with Control Systems and associated platforms.
• Manage the investigation and identification of the root causes of downtime associated with control systems and developing/implementing solutions to prevent repeat events from occurring, eliminating defects, maximising Mean Time Between Failures and minimizing Mean Time to Recovery.
• Material risk critical control owner
• Service owner of Eastern Pilbara control systems – Including accountability for governance, service continuity management and to support cybersecurity initiatives within the scope.

About You

You will be a motivated and passionate professional who is committed to technical excellence, operational support and sustainable improvement. Your management skills and team approach will enhance the contribution of the Control and Operational Technology Systems to the business.

Your demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring operational, engineering or technology teams in a complex operational environment will contribute to your success in this role. In addition, we are ideally looking for the following skills and experience:

• Ability to implement change through influence and is agile in meeting customer’s needs
• Identifies improvements and can work autonomously in setting others up for success
• Collaborative and solution-focused with the ability to work well under pressure
• Strong understand if engineering processes and operational context.

Preferred Technical Experience

• Configuration and programming of PLC Platforms, Fieldbus networks Variable Speed Drives, analogue and digital actuators and sensors.
• Configuration and programming of SCADA applications/platforms.
• Functional Safety Systems design and maintenance.
• Vendor and contract management practices & processes.
