Job summary

Department of Transport and Main Roads QLD – Cairns is seeking a Principal Engineer (Civil) to lead delivery in Far North Queensland. You will provide engineering expertise, assurance and coordination across procurement, preconstruction, contract administration and construction delivery.

You will collaborate with district planning, technical services and design teams, ensuring quality documentation and timely, on-budget project outcomes. Flexible work options may apply.

Qualifications

• Experience with road design standards, plans, specifications and construction.
• Strong engineering investigation, reporting and project management skills.
• Governance, analytical and problem-solving abilities with risk management.
• Ability to build enduring stakeholder relationships.
• Must have Civil Engineering degree and RPEQ eligibility or progress toward.

Responsibilities

• Apply high-level engineering and project management expertise to preconstruction, managing risks to achieve fit-for-purpose designs and value for money.
• Collaborate with internal project managers to provide preconstruction advice and quality assurance.
• Coordinate preconstruction disciplines, including environmental, cultural heritage and geotechnical requirements.
• Manage contract performance and construction practices through efficient procedures and best practice.
• Supervise and coordinate resources, fostering teamwork toward project objectives.
