Job summary

Transport and Main Roads in Rockhampton, Australia, seeks an experienced Principal Engineer (Civil) to lead design, construction, maintenance and operation of road networks throughout regional Queensland. The role blends technical engineering expertise with project leadership in a permanent, flexible full-time arrangement.

You will guide project managers, apply standards and ensure safe, compliant delivery while managing risk and stakeholder relationships across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Four-year Washington Accord accredited Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalent.
• Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is mandatory.
• Current Class C driver licence.
• Project management qualifications or certification and experience leading multidisciplinary teams on large infrastructure projects are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manage development and delivery of routine and programmed maintenance and road rehabilitation programs.
• Oversee contract performance and construction practices, supporting efficient processes and best practice.
• Manage operational aspects of projects across the project management lifecycle.
• Apply relevant engineering standards, policies, guidelines and legislative requirements.
• Address quality and environmental requirements throughout project delivery.
• Provide specialist advice on planning, design options, materials, resources and construction practices.
• Coordinate resources, encourage effective teamwork and support achievement of project and organisational outcomes.
• Build strong stakeholder relationships and proactively manage emerging, high-risk and sensitive matters.
