Job summary

Qualifications

• Up to $750/day + super

We’re seeking a commercially minded Senior Pricing Analyst to join a NSW Government organisation on a significant financial analysis project. Working within the Finance team, you’ll investigate historical expenditure, identify the factors driving changes in costs and provide insights to inform future costing, pricing and cost-recovery decisions.

The role

Reporting to the Manager, Pricing, you’ll consolidate and analyse approximately 20 years of financial and operational data. You’ll work with finance and business stakeholders to understand the information behind the numbers, test assumptions and translate your findings into clear recommendations.

Key responsibilities include:

• Consolidating, validating and analysing large datasets from multiple sources, including general ledger and operational information.
• Developing and maintaining financial and cost models using advanced Excel and Power Pivot.
• Investigating historical cost movements, trends and operational variables to explain changes in expenditure.
• Reviewing costing methodologies, cost allocations and cost-recovery mechanisms to improve accuracy, transparency and consistency.
• Preparing dashboards, reports and briefings that communicate complex findings clearly to senior leaders and non-financial stakeholders.
• Applying cost-accounting and cost-benefit analysis principles to support evidence-based decisions.
• Supporting improvements to financial and pricing systems, data integration, automation and reporting.
• Proactively identifying gaps, questioning assumptions and recommending more effective ways of working.

Skills and experience required:

• You’ll bring experience in pricing, financial analysis, management accounting, commercial analysis or a similar discipline, together with:
• Advanced Excel skills, including Power Pivot, and experience consolidating complex financial data.
• Strong financial modelling capability and an understanding of cost accounting, cost allocation and cost recovery.
• A commercial mindset, analytical curiosity and the initiative to investigate why costs have changed.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with a patient, respectful approach to gathering information from busy teams.
• The ability to explain why information is needed and communicate effectively with finance and non-finance audiences.
• Sound judgement, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities independently.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in finance, accounting, commerce or a related discipline are desirable.
• CA or CPA accreditation is preferred but not mandatory.
• Experience with cost-benefit analysis, financial systems implementations or migrations, ETL or BI tools would also be highly regarded.
• Government experience is not essential. Candidates from all industry backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Working arrangements

• The role is based in Sydney CBD, with two office days each week and Tuesday as the team’s anchor day. Expect three to five days onsite during the first week, with some additional attendance initially to support onboarding and relationship building.
• An ASAP start is preferred, although candidates with two weeks’ notice can be considered. A two-week Christmas shutdown applies.
• Appointment is subject to a satisfactory criminal record check and meeting the organisation’s political neutrality requirements.
