Job summary

Act for Kids in Cairns is seeking two Practice Supervisors to lead the Intensive Family Support team and coach practitioners to deliver high-quality services for children and families. This role combines leadership with mentoring, child safety focus, and system-wide improvements within a government-funded contract.

The position offers strong opportunities for professional development and impact, with a salary in the mid- six figures AUD and additional benefits such as wellbeing days and support

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in allied health, social work or human services, with professional registration if required.
• Five years’ experience with children and families, preferably with trauma-informed framework.
• Experience supervising staff in a similar role and eligibility to work in Australia.

Job description

We're excited to welcome two Practice Supervisors to our Cairns Intensive Family Support (IFS) team. In this leadership role, you'll support and develop practitioners to deliver high-quality services that create lasting change for children and families. Combining practice leadership, coaching and mentoring with a strong focus on child safety and family wellbeing, you'll help drive positive outcomes while building the capability and confidence of those around you.

• Level 6 SCHCADS Award.
• Salary range: $115,340 - $120,441 + Superannuation.
• Full-time, government-funded contract opportunity until 30 September 2026, with anticipated funding renewal through to 30 June 2028.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and inspire practitioners through coaching, supervision and professional development to deliver high-quality, evidence-informed support to families.
• Drive best-practice outcomes by providing expert guidance on child protection risk, safety planning, case management and engagement with families experiencing complex challenges.
• Strengthen team capability by mentoring staff in key practice frameworks and facilitating individual, group and field-based learning opportunities.
• Make a broader impact by fostering strong stakeholder partnerships, supporting service performance and helping families build safer, stronger futures.

About You

• Hold a relevant tertiary qualification (allied health, social work, human services), with professional registration (if required) and a membership in a professional association (desirable).
• At least five (5) years’ experience working with children and families, preferably with time spent working within a trauma-informed framework.
• Relevant experience supervising staff in similar role.
• Eligibility to work in Australia (proof of eligibility required), including holding or obtaining required checks (Working with Children Check or professional exemption).
