Job summary

FamilyCare in Victoria seeks a Restoring Families Practitioner to support children and families at risk through intensive home visits and coordinated services. The role emphasizes autonomy, mentorship to colleagues, and evidence-informed, family-centred interventions within a multi-agency framework.

You will manage complex cases, maintain professional standards, and contribute to better child outcomes while working within organisational policies.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Social Work, Family Therapy, Community Services, Psychology, or related qualifications.
• Minimum two years’ case management experience with infants, children, families at risk.
• Advanced knowledge of issues facing vulnerable families including child development, attachment, trauma and family violence.
• Advanced knowledge of relevant legislation including Children Youth and Families Act 2005, Child Wellbeing and Safety Act 2005 and Child Safe Standards.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake casework using a case management approach.
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with diverse communities.
• Willingness to obtain Working with Children Check and National Police Check; International Police Check if lived overseas.
• Valid Victorian Driver Licence.

Responsibilities

• Work intensively with children and families, over multiple weekly visits with hours scaled by complexity.
• Provide flexible service delivery within Restoring Families program, including visits outside normal hours.
• Conduct in-home assessments identifying needs, strengths and risk in families and individuals.
• Focus on rehabilitation, reducing offending and strengthening community safety and engagement.
• Coordinate a strong team across social, health and justice services in a complex environment.

About the Role

FamilyCare's Restoring Families Program delivers evidence-informed, family-centred interventions and supports for children and families with significant, enduring needs, aiming to divert families from, and prevent further progression into, statutory services. It is an innovative approach to delivering evidence informed and coordinated support to vulnerable child and families through strengthened partnerships with Child Protection and all referring agencies.

The Restoring Families Practitioner brings extensive knowledge and experience, enabling them to manage complex cases, operate with a high level of autonomy, and provide guidance and mentorship to colleagues.

This role demands a demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, display strong self-management and initiative, and make informed decisions in line with organisational policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities:

• Work intensively with children and families, over multiple weekly visits with hours of service scaled up or down depending on complexity. Delivering effective interventions that increase parenting capacity, improve family functioning, achieve child safety, and enhance conditions for child development with the aim of achieving better outcomes for children.
• Provide flexible service delivery to meet demand and current needs within the Restoring Families program, which may include visits outside of hours to be inclusive of all family members and address targeted issues in the active action plan.
• Conduct in home assessments identifying needs, strengths and risk in families and individuals.
• Provide a focus on, rehabilitation, reducing offending and strengthening community safety, and community and family engagement.
• Participate in coordinating a strong team, bringing together social, health and justice services, which is built on inclusiveness and respectfulness, operating with a high level of professional management in a complex and demanding environment.

About You

You are a skilled practitioner with experience supporting children, young people and families facing complex challenges. You are passionate about empowering families and achieving sustainable outcomes through respectful, strengths-based practice.

• Tertiary qualification (minimum Diploma) in Social Work, Family Therapy, Community Services, Psychology or other relevant qualifications
• Minimum two years’ case management experience including expertise in working with infants, children, young people and families at risk
• Advanced knowledge of the issues facing vulnerable families including child development, attachment, trauma and family violence
• Advanced knowledge of relevant theoretical frameworks and legislation including Children Youth and Families Act 2005, the Child Wellbeing and Safety Act 2005 and Child Safe Standards
• Demonstrated ability to undertake casework practice using a case management approach
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people and diverse communities
• Well-developed administrative skills including maintaining accurate files, detailed assessments and case notes
• Willingness to obtain a valid Working with Children Check and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencing employment with us. If you have spent over 12 months overseas in the last 10 years, you will also be required to undergo an International Police Check or present evidence of a satisfactory check
• Valid VictorianDriver Licence
