The role focuses on enterprise-scale PostgreSQL platforms, high availability, automation with Ansible, CI/CD, and security, with hybrid work and location flexibility across major Australian cities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years PostgreSQL DBA experience.
• Strong hands-on PostgreSQL infrastructure experience.
• Experience with Ansible and CI/CD automation.
• Hands-on with RHEL, OpenShift and VMware.
• Experience with EDB PEM and EFM.
• Experience with GitLab CI/CD and Argo CD.
• Scripting in Python and Shell.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy and manage PostgreSQL database environments.
• Configure high availability and replication with EFM.
• Install and administer PEM.
• Develop Infrastructure as Code using Ansible.
• Implement CI/CD automated deployments.
• Support PostgreSQL on RHEL, OpenShift and VMware.

• Perform upgrades, migrations, tuning and troubleshooting.

Job description

Location: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth or Canberra, Australia

Contract: 12 months, with potential extensions up to 24 months

Expected Start: 1 January 2027

We are seeking two experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineers / PostgreSQL Database Administrators to join a major Australian Government technology engagement with Services Australia.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced infrastructure and database professionals to work on enterprise-scale PostgreSQL platforms, supporting critical digital services.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy and manage PostgreSQL database environments.
• Configure and maintain PostgreSQL high availability and replication using EDB Failover Manager (EFM).
• Install, configure and administer EDB Postgres Enterprise Manager (PEM).
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Ansible.
• Implement automated deployments through CI/CD pipelines.
• Support PostgreSQL deployments across RHEL, OpenShift and VMware environments.
• Configure GitLab and Argo CD for GitOps‑based deployment workflows.
• Implement backup, disaster recovery and point‑in‑time recovery (PITR) solutions.
• Perform database upgrades, migrations, performance tuning and troubleshooting.
• Implement database security controls, including LDAP/Active Directory, RBAC, TLS and certificate management.
• Develop automation scripts using Python and Shell.
• Minimum 5 years of PostgreSQL database administration experience.
• Strong experience with Ansible and CI/CD pipeline automation.
• Hands‑on experience with RHEL, OpenShift and VMware environments.
• Experience developing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code.
• Strong PostgreSQL performance optimisation and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience implementing PostgreSQL security and access controls.
• Knowledge of high availability, replication, backup and disaster recovery.
• Experience with EDB Postgres Enterprise Manager and EDB Failover Manager.
• Experience with GitLab CI/CD and Argo CD.
• Strong Python and Shell scripting skills.
• Experience with enterprise database migrations and upgrades.

Additional Requirements

• Must be Australian Government Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security cleared
• Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement and attend the relevant agency location when required.
