Job summary

Heaton Rail in Western Sydney is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to design, develop and test PLC software for advanced electromechanical systems used in rail vehicle HVAC and thermal management. The role requires a tertiary engineering degree and 5–10 years' hands‑on PLC experience, IEC 61131 proficiency, and proven abilities in analysis, testing and root-cause investigations.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Software Engineering or related discipline.
• 5–10 years' hands‑on experience in PLC programming and industrial control systems.
• Experience with IEC 61131 programming languages such as Structured Text, Function Block Diagrams and/or Sequential Function Charts.
• Experience developing and testing control software for electromechanical equipment or industrial systems.
• Experience across requirements analysis, software design, testing, validation, troubleshooting and root cause analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement PLC software and control algorithms for industrial electromechanical systems.
• Undertake system functional analysis and develop traceable software requirements and specifications.
• Perform software and system verification and validation, including bench testing, FAT and site testing.
• Troubleshoot PLC, software and equipment faults, undertake root cause analysis and support ongoing software maintenance.
• Support software documentation, configuration management, defect tracking and continuous improvement activities while working across local and international engineering teams.
