Bureau of Meteorology is seeking an experienced leader to drive the 24/7 operational management of a mission-critical platform environment. You will oversee Linux systems support and infrastructure engineering, ensuring reliable, secure, and high-performing services aligned with SLAs and ISM standards.

Candidate will lead a multi-disciplinary team, manage an operational budget, and collaborate across cloud, connectivity, HPC, and application teams to sustain platform health and governance.

Description du poste

The role is responsible for leading the operational management of a 24/7 mission-critical platform environment, encompassing compute, storage, virtualisation, backup, and Linux systems. It ensures the delivery of reliable, secure, and high-performing infrastructure services aligned to agreed service levels and organisational priorities.

Providing both technical and people leadership, the position oversees a multi-disciplinary team across Linux systems support and infrastructure engineering, fostering a high-performing, accountable, and responsive operational culture. It plays a key role in maintaining platform availability through effective incident management, on‑call leadership, and acting as an escalation point for complex and high-impact issues.

The role holds end‑to‑end operational accountability for platform services delivered across both in‑house teams and Managed Service Partners, ensuring visibility, alignment with technical standards, and adherence to service expectations. It contributes to governance and service level management while maintaining strong oversight of platform health, capacity, performance, and security compliance in line with the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM) and relevant frameworks.

Working collaboratively across cloud, connectivity, HPC and application teams, the position supports integrated service delivery and the successful coordination of project and programme resources. It also ensures effective lifecycle management of platform assets, including patching, upgrades, and refresh activities, to maintain currency and mitigate risk.

The role maintains strong vendor relationships, contributes to procurement and contract management activities, and manages a significant operational budget to ensure sustainable and efficient service delivery. Through participation in governance forums such as the Change Advisory Board (CAB), and the application of ITIL‑aligned service management practices, the position drives operational discipline, continuous improvement, and the ongoing maturity of platform services.
