Job summary

South Burnett Regional Council in Wondai is seeking a Plant Operator to provide high quality operation of the grader and other plant. The role works under remote supervision and may supervise a team in the absence of the site supervisor.

Duties include servicing, general labour, and ensuring work meets standards. The successful candidate will hold a C Class licence, White Card, and a Competency in Grader Operations, with desirable HR licence and additional plant tickets.

Qualifications

  • Must have current C Class driver’s licence.
  • General Safety Induction for Construction Worker (White Card) required.
  • Certificate of Competency in Grader Operations (or equivalent) must be held.

Responsibilities

  • Operate grader to achieve final trim tolerance on road construction/maintenance works.
  • Maintain and service heavy plant and equipment including pre-start inspections.
  • Read basic plans and read/interpret project specs for works.
  • Lead employees and make daily decisions in the absence of the site supervisor.

About the roles

Permanent Full Time

$70K- $74K per annum + Allowances + Super

Council is seeking a Plant Operator to provide high quality specialist operation of Council's grader and other plant/equipment. This position will work under remote supervision and supervise a team of employees in the absence of the site supervisor/team leader. Duties also include maintaining and servicing plant/ vehicles on a daily basis, read and interpret basic plans, perform general labouring and undertake traffic control. The successful applicant will have proven experience in the operation of a Grader to achieve final trim tolerance and standards on road construction and maintenance works, as well as knowledge of road maintenance, sound literacy/numeracy skills, and ability to complete assigned tasks on time.

Additional Factors

Participation in after hours and weekend work is a requirement of this position.

Level of fitness required to undertake a broad range of physical tasks.

Mandatory Qualifications
  • Minimum requirement of a current C Class driver’s licence

Skills and experience
  • Proven experience in the operation of a Grader to achieve final trim tolerance and standards on road construction and maintenance works.
  • Knowledge of road maintenance and construction techniques in relation to the use of road grading equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve maintenance/construction standards, lead employees and make daily decisions in a team environment.
  • Sound literacy, numeracy, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to complete assigned works duties on time and within required standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and service heavy plant and equipment (including pre-start inspections).
