Job summary

Ku-ring-gai Council is seeking a Plant Operator - Depot to support essential depot operations, including heavy plant operation, material handling, waste management and general maintenance. You will work on site at the depot, ensuring tasks are completed safely and efficiently.

The role requires certification to operate a front-end loader, MR and forklift licences, White and Blue Cards, and AQF Level 3 chemical handling, with at least five years of heavy-plant experience.

Qualifications

• Front-end loader operation and depot maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate front-end loader for material handling and depot tasks.
• Load/unload vehicles and coordinate deliveries.
• Manage waste materials and support recycling.
• Maintain records of deliveries, dispatches and waste.
• Inspect and maintain depot grounds and storage areas.
• Keep drainage pits clear and report issues.
• Maintain plant and equipment and report faults.
• Perform depot housekeeping and safety tasks.
• Follow WHS procedures and risk controls.
• Report hazards and environmental risks.
• Complete timesheets, work orders and daily risk assessments.
• Collaborate with team and contractors to support operations.

About the role

Join Ku-ring-gai Council as a Plant Operator - Depot, supporting essential depot operations through heavy plant operation, material handling, waste management and general depot maintenance.

Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Operating Council’s front-end loader to undertake material handling and depot maintenance tasks.
• Loading and unloading trucks, plant and materials, and coordinating deliveries to designated material bays.
• Monitoring, sorting and managing waste materials to prevent contamination and support recycling processes.
• Maintaining accurate records of material deliveries, dispatches and waste generated.
• Inspecting and maintaining depot grounds, buildings, gardens, car parks and material storage areas.
• Ensuring drainage pits and trench drains are clear of debris and reporting damage or defects.
• Maintaining plant and equipment, reporting faults and ensuring equipment is kept in good working condition.
• Undertaking general cleaning, litter removal, weed control and other depot housekeeping activities.
• Following workplace health and safety requirements, risk assessments, safe work procedures and traffic management controls.
• Identifying and reporting workplace hazards, incidents and environmental risks.
• Completing required documentation, timesheets, work orders and daily risk assessments.
• Working collaboratively with team members, supervisors, contractors and other Council staff to support efficient depot operations.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

• A current licence or relevant certification to operate a front-end loader, with MR and forklift licences.
• A current White Card and Blue Card.
• Confined Spaces certification.
• AQF Level 3 qualification in chemical handling.
• A minimum of five years’ experience operating heavy plant equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to load and unload materials efficiently and safely.
• 38 hours per week/9 day fortnight
