Job summary

Ku-ring-gai Council is seeking a Plant Operator - Depot to support heavy plant operation, materials handling, waste management and depot maintenance. You will load/unload, monitor waste, and maintain records while ensuring depot grounds and facilities are kept in good order.

The role requires licences for front-end loader, MR and forklift, plus White/Blue Cards and Confined Spaces certification. At least five years of heavy plant experience is expected.

Qualifications

• Front-end loader operation license and MR and forklift licenses required.
• White Card and Blue Card required.
• Confined Spaces certification required.
• AQF Level 3 qualification in chemical handling.
• Minimum five years' experience operating heavy plant equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate front-end loader for material handling and depot maintenance.
• Load and unload trucks and coordinate deliveries to material bays.
• Monitor, sort and manage waste to prevent contamination and support recycling.
• Maintain records of deliveries, dispatches and waste generated.
• Inspect and maintain depot grounds, buildings, gardens, car parks and storage areas.
• Keep drainage pits and trench drains clear and report defects.
• Maintain plant and equipment and report faults.
• Undertake depot housekeeping, cleaning and weed control.
• Follow WHS requirements, risk assessments and traffic management controls.
• Identify and report hazards and environmental risks.
• Complete required documentation, timesheets and daily risk assessments.
• Collaborate with team members, supervisors, contractors and Council staff.

About the role

Join Ku-ring-gai Council as a Plant Operator - Depot, supporting essential depot operations through heavy plant operation, material handling, waste management and general depot maintenance.

Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Operating Councils front-end loader to undertake material handling and depot maintenance tasks.
• Loading and unloading trucks, plant and materials, and coordinating deliveries to designated material bays.
• Monitoring, sorting and managing waste materials to prevent contamination and support recycling processes.
• Maintaining accurate records of material deliveries, dispatches and waste generated.
• Inspecting and maintaining depot grounds, buildings, gardens, car parks and material storage areas.
• Ensuring drainage pits and trench drains are clear of debris and reporting damage or defects.
• Maintaining plant and equipment, reporting faults and ensuring equipment is kept in good working condition.
• Undertaking general cleaning, litter removal, weed control and other depot housekeeping activities.
• Following workplace health and safety requirements, risk assessments, safe work procedures and traffic management controls.
• Identifying and reporting workplace hazards, incidents and environmental risks.
• Completing required documentation, timesheets, work orders and daily risk assessments.
• Working collaboratively with team members, supervisors, contractors and other Council staff to support efficient depot operations.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

• A current licence or relevant certification to operate a front-end loader, with MR and forklift licences.
• A current White Card and Blue Card.
• Confined Spaces certification.
• AQF Level 3 qualification in chemical handling.
• A minimum of five years' experience operating heavy plant equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to load and unload materials efficiently and safely.
• 38 hours per week/9 day fortnight
