Job summary

Ku-ring-gai Council is seeking a Plant Operator - Depot in Sydney to support depot operations with heavy plant equipment, material handling and waste management. The role is permanent full-time, offering 38 hours per week within a 9-day fortnight schedule.

Applicants should hold a current MR and forklift licences, White/Blue Cards, Confined Spaces, and AQF Level 3 in chemical handling, with at least five years of depot experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate front-end loader for material handling and depot maintenance.
• Load/unload trucks and coordinate deliveries to material bays.
• Sort and manage waste to support recycling and prevent contamination.
• Maintain records of deliveries, dispatches and waste generated.
• Inspect and maintain depot grounds, buildings, gardens and storage areas.
• Keep drainage pits and trench drains clear and report faults.
• Maintain plant/equipment and report faults.
• Perform depot housekeeping tasks including cleaning and weed control.
• Follow safety procedures and traffic management controls.
• Identify hazards and report environmental risks.
• Complete timesheets, work orders and daily risk assessments.
• Collaborate with team members and contractors for efficient operations.

• Salary $72,964.74 - $84,638.44

About the role

Join Ku-ring-gai Council as a Plant Operator - Depot, supporting essential depot operations through heavy plant operation, material handling, waste management and general depot maintenance.

Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Operating Council’s front-end loader to undertake material handling and depot maintenance tasks.
• Loading and unloading trucks, plant and materials, and coordinating deliveries to designated material bays.
• Monitoring, sorting and managing waste materials to prevent contamination and support recycling processes.
• Maintaining accurate records of material deliveries, dispatches and waste generated.
• Inspecting and maintaining depot grounds, buildings, gardens, car parks and material storage areas.
• Ensuring drainage pits and trench drains are clear of debris and reporting damage or defects.
• Maintaining plant and equipment, reporting faults and ensuring equipment is kept in good working condition.
• Undertaking general cleaning, litter removal, weed control and other depot housekeeping activities.
• Following workplace health and safety requirements, risk assessments, safe work procedures and traffic management controls.
• Identifying and reporting workplace hazards, incidents and environmental risks.
• Completing required documentation, timesheets, work orders and daily risk assessments.
• Working collaboratively with team members, supervisors, contractors and other Council staff to support efficient depot operations.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

• A current licence or relevant certification to operate a front-end loader, with MR and forklift licences.
• A current White Card and Blue Card.
• Confined Spaces certification.
• AQF Level 3 qualification in chemical handling.
• A minimum of five years’ experience operating heavy plant equipment.
• Previous depot operations experience.
• Demonstrated ability to load and unload materials efficiently and safely.
