Job summary

NSW State Emergency Service is seeking a Planning and Research Officer to support evidence-based advisory work across floods, storms and tsunamis. The role offers flexible locations in NSW with hybrid work options and on-the-ground collaboration with NSW SES planning and operational teams.

Successful applicants will have strong analytical skills, experience in risk assessment or policy development, and the ability to learn GIS and Power BI.

Qualifications

• Experience in research, risk assessment, policy, planning, engineering, or related fields.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to learn technology-based systems such as GIS and Power BI.

Responsibilities

• Apply research and analytical skills to develop evidence-based emergency management advice.
• Support the development of strategies, risk information and intelligence products.
• Collaborate with local councils, government agencies and NSW SES planning teams to inform decisions.
