Job summary

The NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) invites applications for a Planning and Research Officer (Clerk Grade 5/6). Flexible NSW locations, including Wollongong HQ or regional sites such as Rhodes, Metford, Goulburn, Bathurst, or Tamworth.

The role supports evidence-based emergency management advice, risk information, and policy development. Applicants should have research and analytical experience in risk, policy or planning fields, with on-the-job training provided.

Qualifications

• Researchers who can form evidence-based advice.
• Strong attention to detail with critical thinking.
• Ability to work in a cohesive, collaborative team.
• Experience or ability to learn GIS and Power BI.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Apply research and analytical skills to develop evidence-based emergency management advice, policies, intelligence products, and risk information.
• Undertake research, analyse complex information, and support development, review, and implementation of risk management strategies.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to inform decision-making and strengthen community preparedness.
