Job summary

NSW State Emergency Service is seeking a Planning and Research Officer to support evidence-based emergency management across NSW. The role focuses on research, risk assessment, and policy development, with on-the-job training provided.

Based at NSW SES locations with a hybrid working arrangement. Temporary position up to 30 October 2027, with potential extensions. Applicants may indicate preferred location among state HQs and regional sites.

Qualifications

• Experience or qualifications in research, risk assessment, policy, planning, engineering, or related fields.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to learn technology-based systems such as GIS and Power BI.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to evidence-based emergency management advice, policies, and risk information.
• Undertake research, analyse complex information, and support strategy development.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to strengthen risk management and preparedness.
