Job summary

Queensland Health in Toowoomba is seeking a Phlebotomist to join the Pathology team. The role involves high-quality specimen collection, patient interaction and support for the Specimen Collection department across campus locations.

You will operate in a fast-paced public health setting, following protocols, ensuring patient safety and confidentiality. The department runs seven days a week with shifts including weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities

• Collection of appropriate quality blood and non-blood specimens from clients of Pathology Queensland as per protocols and the prompt delivery of specimens to the laboratory.
• Ensure correct patient identification, labelling and collecting techniques are followed according to documented policies and procedures.
• Liaise with patients, medical and non-medical staff to ensure correct collection of specimens and efficient operation of the Specimen Collection department.
• Proven ability to manage time effectively.
• Maintain professional attitude and behaviour when dealing with staff and clients.
• Perform operational duties which include restocking pathology consumables, maintaining clean work areas and assisting where the Phlebotomy Coordinator directs.
• Participate in relevant on-going education and assist in staff training.
• Work with integrity, comply with expected ethical and behavioural standards, respect patient's confidentiality and know the importance of patient information.
• Understanding of laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO certification.
• Working with Mental Health patients including inpatients at Baillie Henderson Hospital, Infectious Disease ward and patients in nursing homes.
