Job summary

John Hunter Hospital is inviting a Pharmacist (Grade 1/2) to join the 70-strong Pharmacy Department in a permanent full-time role. You will work across clinical and operational services with opportunities in sterile production, antimicrobial stewardship, clinical trials and Rankin Park campus services.

Qualifications

  • Pharmacist registered with AHPRA with no conditions on registration.
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy or strong community pharmacy background with willingness to develop hospital skills.
  • Must meet Grade 2 criteria under the Health Employees' Pharmacists (State) Award or be progressing towards it.

Responsibilities

  • Work across clinical and operational pharmacy services, with opportunities in sterile production, antimicrobial stewardship, clinical trials and Rankin Park campus services.
  • Contribute to future hospital pharmacy developments as John Hunter Hospital undergoes redevelopment and new facilities planned for 2027.

About the role and where you will be working

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and enthusiastic Grade 1-2 Pharmacist to join the 70-strong Pharmacy Department at John Hunter Hospital in a permanent full-time role. You will work across clinical and operational services, with opportunities to develop your skills across sterile production, antimicrobial stewardship (AMS), clinical trials and services to the Rankin Park campus. We are a supportive team that values collaboration, professional development and good camaraderie. With our department currently undergoing redevelopment and state-of-the-art pharmacy facilities planned for 2027, this is an exciting time to join our team and contribute to the future of pharmacy services at JHH. Participation in weekend, after-hours, public holiday and on-call rosters is required.

About you

We are looking for a practising Pharmacist registered with AHPRA with no conditions on registration, who has experience and a good working knowledge of hospital pharmacy, or a strong community pharmacy background with a willingness to develop hospital pharmacy skills. Pharmacists seeking Grade 2 will need to demonstrate that they meet the requirements for Grade 2 under the relevant Award; applicants who meet the required timeframe and are working towards the remaining criteria may also be considered.

Requirements

Proof of eligibility for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration agency, Pharmacy. Must be able to demonstrate fulfilment of the criteria for grade 2 pharmacist in accordance with the Health Employees' Pharmacists (State) Award

Proven capacity to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, including able to supervise pharmacy support staff.

Proven knowledge of therapeutics, particularly as related to the hospital setting and specific clinical specialities as required

Demonstrated sound clinical reasoning skills and an awareness of medication safety principles
