Ploomo in Melbourne is seeking a strategic People & Culture Manager to own HR end to end as the company scales from 30 to 80+ and expands internationally. You will build foundational HRIS, policies and processes, and lead senior hires across Australia, the US, the UK and Asia.

This part-time, hybrid role reports to the Chief People Officer, with a small team and significant influence at board level. You will design scalable people practices, drive talent development and ensure compliance.

• Proven track record building HR in startups or scale-ups during growth.
• Experience supporting people outside Australia or with EORs/offshore teams.
• Hands-on implementation of systems, policies and processes.
• Strong recruitment experience, including senior roles.
• Ability to handle complex employee relations calmly and professionally.

• Tech, SaaS, media or digital domain experience is valued.

A Melbourne-based, venture-backed ad tech / commerce media scale-up. Its award-winning technology is used by global brands and works with some of the world’s biggest media and tech platforms. It recently closed a capital raise backed by a US investor and is now expanding into the US, the UK and Southeast Asia. Experienced senior leaders are being hired right across the business.

The opportunity

Headcount is heading from around 30 to 80+, and most of the new hires will be outside Australia. Until now, HR has been one of several jobs held by a senior leader. You’ll be the first person whose whole job is people. You’ll assess what’s in place, decide what to build, and then build it yourself.

What you’ll do

• Own HR end to end: policy, contracts, ER, performance and engagement
• Build scalable foundations, including HRIS, payroll, onboarding and people data
• Drive hiring for around 50 roles and personally lead senior hires
• Set up consistent, compliant people practice across Australia, the US, the UK and Asia with EOR and local partners
• Advise the founder and leadership team as a steady, trusted voice

What you’ll bring

• A track record of building HR in a startup or scale-up through growth
• Experience supporting people outside Australia (US, UK or Asia) or working with EORs and offshore teams
• A hands-on approach: you’ve implemented systems, policies and processes yourself
• Strong recruitment experience, including senior roles
• Composure with complex ER matters
• The confidence to challenge leadership, and the judgement to know when to do it
• Tech, SaaS, media or digital experience (highly regarded, not essential)

About the Opportunity

This is a chance to run the operational heart of a People & Culture function in a business that moves quickly. The strategy is already set by a Chief People Officer who knows exactly where their heading. What they needs now is a calm, practical P&C Manager to own the day to day, make sound calls on complex matters and help bring some exciting projects to life. This is a part-time role across 3 or 4 days per week, with hybrid flexibility.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, you’ll lead an HR Business Partner and an HR Advisor, and be the go-to P&C leader for a workforce of around 800 across Australia and New Zealand.

Day to day, you can expect to:

• Own BAU and operational HR delivery, keeping service consistent across a complex, multi-entity business
• Advise leaders on complex employee and industrial relations matters, working out the best approach, managing risk and making sound decisions on the fly
• Support enterprise agreement bargaining across multiple agreements, including several rounds in the coming months. Prior bargaining experience is a bonus but not essential, and you’ll be supported to build it
• Coach managers on performance, conduct and the interpretation of Awards, EBAs and policy
• Lead key projects on the agenda, with a focus on Talent & Capability uplift, HR Technology review, and EBA renewals.
