Job summary

The City of Casey is seeking a Payroll Team Leader to command Casey’s end-to-end payroll function for a large, diverse workforce. You’ll develop a high-performing team, drive automation, and lead governance to ensure accurate, timely payroll delivery.

You’ll report to the Head of Workplace Relations & People Operations and influence payroll strategy across the organisation while ensuring service excellence and strong governance.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading payroll teams within large, complex and highly regulated environments.
• Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and industrial instruments, including Enterprise Bargaining Agreements.
• Demonstrated experience managing payroll compliance, governance and risk.
• Experience using enterprise payroll systems such as iChris, Chris21 and HR21.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and data management capability with exceptional attention to detail.
• Customer-focused mindset and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience driving process improvement, system optimisation and automation initiatives.
• The ability to build trusted relationships, influence stakeholders and confidently lead through change.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a specialist payroll team, fostering a culture of trust, accountability and service excellence.
• Oversee the delivery of accurate, timely and compliant end-to-end payroll services, managing priorities, resolving complex payroll issues and monitoring service performance.
• Provide expert advice on payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation, awards, Enterprise Bargaining Agreements and employment conditions.
• Ensure payroll governance, controls, assurance activities and risk management practices remain robust and effective, including reconciliations, statutory reporting, audit responses and timely corrective action
• Lead the payroll contribution to major organisational projects, including system and process improvement initiatives.
• Drive continuous improvement through automation, self-service enhancements and smarter ways of working.
• Partner with stakeholders across People & Culture, Finance, Technology and the broader organisation to deliver exceptional customer outcomes.
• Build team capability and strengthen business continuity through clear procedures, shared expertise and ongoing development.
