Job summary

UnitingCare Queensland is seeking an experienced payroll professional to lead our Payroll team, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant payroll across Hospitals, Family and Disability Services, and Corporate portfolios.

As Payroll Team Leader you will oversee end-to-end payroll runs, interpret Awards and Enterprise Agreements, support audits and drive continuous improvements while mentoring a team of payroll specialists and maintaining strict confidentiality and accuracy.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years' experience in payroll, with end-to-end payroll processing in a complex environment.
• Experience leading or mentoring team members, or readiness to take on a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of Awards, Enterprise Agreements and payroll-related legislation.
• Experience in high-volume payroll environments with multiple pay cycles.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail.
• Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end payroll processing, coordinating and facilitating payroll runs.
• Ensure payroll activities are accurate, timely and compliant with policies, procedures and legislation.
• Interpret Awards, Enterprise Agreements and complex payroll scenarios; provide guidance to the payroll team.
• Manage escalated payroll enquiries and issues.
• Support internal and external audit activities and ensure payroll compliance obligations are met.
• Lead, coach and develop payroll team members with feedback and development plans.
• Monitor workloads to ensure service levels are achieved.
• Contribute to payroll projects, process improvements and system enhancements.
• Build strong relationships with leaders, employees and stakeholders while maintaining confidentiality.
