Job summary

City of Canterbury Bankstown is seeking a permanent, full-time Team Leader Payroll to lead the payroll function, ensuring accurate, compliant and customer-focused processing. You will manage the team, drive improvements, and liaise with external advisors to uphold legislative and award obligations.

You will contribute to a positive workplace culture, develop staff capability and deliver trusted payroll guidance across the organisation. A competitive Local Government package applies.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in HR, Business, Finance or related discipline.
• Experience leading end-to-end payroll in a medium to large organisation.
• Strong knowledge of Award interpretation, superannuation, PAYG, STP and taxation.
• Proven ability to lead and develop a payroll team.
• Understanding payroll deadlines, controls, reconciliations and audits.
• Experience with HRIS and payroll systems such as SuccessFactors, SAP and Kronos.
• Ability to resolve complex payroll discrepancies and inquiries.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop the Payroll team, building capability, performance and a positive team environment.
• Oversee the effective delivery of payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance and high-quality customer service.
• Develop and maintain payroll policies and procedures in line with legislation, Award requirements and Council standards.
• Provide expert payroll and systems advice, ensuring compliance with ATO, superannuation and internal requirements.
• Coordinate payroll reconciliations, audits and end-of-year processes.
• Drive continuous improvement across payroll systems, processes and service delivery.
• Oversee payroll system maintenance and work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, vendors and external specialists.
• Identify training needs and deliver payroll-related training and development across the team and organisation.
